I've now become fascinated by the Richard Muller crosses, got C Haiku Dawn 'Sunshine and Raspberries' last week in bud and it opened this morning. WHAT the Heck! I must have a special gift for attracting mutants!

Bert, I have the Blc. Haiku Dawn 'Sunshine and Raspberries'. Is this the same as what you have?

Hi Ken, yes it's the same. My photo angle is from the shade so the color is hard to see, I'm on my porch. This Friday afternoon I'll be at the W till lunch, I'd like to stop by later if you will be there?
You have some that I want to try, like Copper Queen.

Had a little surprise today. This is Rlc. Hawaiian Wizard. It's been a really reliable bloomer for me but it had been while. Still, I don't recall seeing a sheath so it really surprised me today. Smells good, too!

Maybe your orchid grower is living too close to the nuclear power plant, Bert?

Still, who's to complain about a two-lipped orchid, especially when the lips are so pretty.

Bert, other than my own Copper Queen which is in bloom and has three more buds, I have no Copper Queen available. I'm sorry. I shipped out the only other one I had on the 28th. I might divide mine after she completes her blooming though.

I would love to have you visit me Friday. Just give me an ETA a couple of hours before coming over. My 'Emerald Isle' is about ready to start her second round of blooms soon, so perhaps she will be in bloom when you get here. She is gorgeous and has a wonderful fragrance. Other than the dainty Phal. equestris plants, which are blooming from almost all white to almost all lavender, not much else is in bloom. I have several in sheath, but they will be a while before blooming.

The question about the Haiku Dawn was not the color but yours is C. and mine are Blc. (well Rhyn.!).

I just looked up Haiku Dawn and found that the official name is Rhynchobrassoleya [Rby.] Haiku Dawn. Older previous names are Brassolaeliocattleya [Blc.] Haiku Dawn and Marriottara [Mrr.] Haiku Dawn. They are all the same orchid (Bc. Richard Mueller x Rlc. Goldenzelle).

Thanks, Jim. Are all Blc. now Rby. rather than Rhyn.? I stay confused on how to label all my dozens of Blc. varieties.

Jim...maybe your plants need to spend another winter outside...or in your garage? Perhaps they've been spoiled by the fabulous attention they get in the OC?

Ken, I'll be happy to look up others for you; just send me the names you have. And no, not all Blc orchids are Rby orchids now. It depends on the orchid. It's best to look up each one.

Melanie, nice Hawaiian Wizard you have there. Love that splash look.

Lindsey, when I think back on it, it may have been cheaper to hire someone to carry the orchids to the garage each cold night rather than build the OC. Too late now. Green Grin!
