Cheryl, I know how you feel, you are the Momma and like you there are times it is hard for me to cut off a branch. That's how my a Hausten White, Trimark and Pink NOID got too tall...in pots :).

Hello everyone. I'm new to this Plumeria forum but I have been growing plumerias for years here in Miami. Today I just scored a nice trash pile haul. A yellow flowering branch that had been knocked off during a storm yesterday. I'm experienced with rooting small pieces ( 1-3 foot ) but one of the branches is at least 5 foot tall with a 3 inch trunk. Will this root easily or should I cut it down into more manageable pieces? It's also forked so I see problems if we get bad weather. Any help is appreciated.

A large cutting will root easily. You may want to look over the previous posts in this topic for more info.
Congratulations on your find!

Hetty, what's the largest (stem diameter) you have ever seen or heard of being rooted?

Thanks. I've cleaned up all the cuttings I was able to grab. 13 in all. I have flush cut the large branch. It's a little bigger than I thought. 6 1/2 feet. The base is very hard and woody. I'm going to try the lean against the fence method that was posted. It looks like the only way to stabilize something of that size. Other than that is there anything different that I need to do when rooting something that large?

Just heel it into the ground and lean against said fence. Once you see leaves you have a new tree!! Thumbs up Hilarious!

Well all the cuttings have healed up nicely. I'll be planting everything up this weekend. I'm sharing the wealth with several friends but I still have a lot of cuttings. Pictures coming soon.

I enjoyed your post TerryNJ! I am fairly new and am in iowa. Can you give me tips on soils for rooting and any fertilization you recommend?
