Just received a flyer from Gilbert H Wild and they have Joker and Claire de Lune for $15 each with free shipping for orders over $75. Make sure you look at their Buy 1 Get One Free area, had some nice ones! Use code 14fc in the promotional code and get 10% off your order.

Gilbert Wild has had a rep for sending misidentified roots but I ordered 15 or so from them last year, 11 bloomed this spring and all were correct. Hopefully they have a better handle on labeling now.

Hi Frank, glad you took advantage of their offer! I know there are several people who've said they won't order from GW because of the mislabeling issue; I think I've had a few from them from years ago that I can't ID because of that, but their roots have always done well for me. I started being more careful about labeling myself a couple of years ago and none of my GW plants have been mislabeled since then. I've probably ordered 50-60 peonies from them in the last 3 years so I'd say they're doing fine now!

I didn't notice the promo code before I ordered so didn't use it, emailed them when I spotted it so hopefully they'll add it for me...that's what happens when you get caught up looking at the pretty peony pictures and don't read the not so fine print!!! I got from the buy 1 get 1 free peonies: Rosette, Luella Shaylor, Red Magic, Polar King, Lustrous, L'Ecletante, Red Magic, George W Peyton and Dresden Pink. I also got a single root of Carol, Early Scout, Joker, Albert Crousse, Amablis, Brand's Magnificent, Elsie Picket, Francois Ortegat, General McMahon, Guidon, Inspector Lavergne, Pink Princess, Pink Radiance, Prince of Darkness, Red Carpet, Red Charm, Red Romance, Ruth Cobb, Sioux Chief and Sitka. Also got a few daylilies: Red Suspenders(buy 1 get 1 free), Cat Dancer, Heirloom Heaven, Jerry's Whirligig, Ming Toy, Morning Face, Mulberry Ripple, Prairie Moonlight, Red Pinnacle, Red Magic, Ruby Spider, Susan Heimerdinger, Thank Your Lucky Stars and a single iris-Blue Batik. And I'll be working on my next 3 days to move another 20 cubic yards of planter's mix to start a new bed for all of the plants coming from GW and others in the fall!

I have been ordering from Wild for the last 15 years or so. in 2011 they sent me peony 'diana parks' that turned out to be fancy Nancy. They refunded my $18. They were also able to ID the one they sent me. That was a plus!

I have ordered hundreds of daylilies from them. When I was still working, I did not keep good records, so I have no idea if they sent me mislabeled plants:)

I will continue to order from Wild.

I'm doing better at the record keeping now, still trying to id several peonies from 4-7 years ago, though.

Just got a note from GW; they switched the promo codes for me and issued a refund for the 10% off. Gotta love when a company corrects your stupidity for you!

Yup. I make the same mistake but missed the free shipping @ $27. ouch. They had already shipped but when I asked about it they very graciously issued a refund. Not a plant nursery, but surely one to remember. Talk about customer service.

Sorry to do this to you but Gilbert Wild is having another sale! They still have a good variety of peonies, irises and lilies; daylilies and other perennials are pretty limited. Doesn't look like they have anything left in the buy 1 get 1 free. For this sale it's $20 off a $100 order, just enter $FREE$ in the promo/discount box. Shipping is free with them for anything over $75 so that still applies, too. They only accept orders up until Oct 15th so get it in soon or not at all!

I ordered from Wilds this spring. The whole order arrived in terrible condition. The Plants Had Been Badly stored....And They Admitted It When I Called them. Yet, they had no intent to make the situation right. The lady even had the nerve to curse at me on the phone. Look at reviews on Dave's Garden. You'll see my experience is not abnormal.

You guys must have acres to be able to plant so many peonies, much less all the other plants you have. Definitely 'acreage envy' here.

Good heavens ! That's a new one. Never been cursed out by a vendor. They must be under siege from unhappy customers.

That treatment is crazy, Silverlake. I wouldn't order from them again if I received that treatment, either. Don't know if I've just been lucky ordering from them or you unlucky; I've had positive experiences the few times I've contacted them with a problem with a shipment.

They also aren't known for getting what you ordered either. Like any plant, if it seems "too good to be true", it usually is. You'll have better luck buying fewer quality plants from growers who stand behind what they sell, Like Adelmans, Song Sparrow & Hollingsworth, to name a few. Learned that a long time ago.

Same thing is true for stores like Walmart, Lowe's, etc. Good cheap way to fill spare areas but flip a coin as to colors and names. Been there, done that also. Some of my best peonies were under $10 but they never matched the picture or names on the package.

In defense of GW, I've found nothing mislabeled in the last 2 growing seasons that I've bought from them. Not everything that I bought last fall bloomed first spring so there are a few that I still have to check. There are a few companies out there that I will not buy from again because of the quality of their products and their customer service, GW isn't among them. The quality of GWs roots is just as good as any of the bigger growers, some even have been as big as Fina's. The only thing I wouldn't do is trust that they got the variety right on one that was a have-to-have plant, I'd probably order that one through another source just in case. I'd order a 2nd one through GW just because of the price, though!

I agree LIz. I have ordered from GW for 20 yrs. I have gotten maybe 2 mis-marked plants out of a lot. They have not looked any worst than places I have paid a higher price. I started buying daylilies from them and have picked up a few peonies. So far they have been what I ordered. I have never called them with a complaint that they did not make it good. What I liked about them is they made it good without returning the mistake or selling my first born to prove it was wrong.

Garden Crossing has the best feedback and they have been the worst co I have ever dealt with for the high price they charge and the good feedback I wonder from my experience how they are getting that high feedback. Their guarantee is short and want to much proof of their high price little plants.

I have ordered many plants from Wild over the past 15 years or so. A couple of years ago I had a peony that was not true to name. They were not able to replace, so they quickly refunded.

Their prices are always low and their plants are as good or better than the competition.

Just got an email flyer from Gilbert Wild, they're having a clearance sale of their remaining spring peonies. Use the promo code PCS for an additional 20% off their current sales price. They have 16 varieties included in the sale: Amablis, Bowl of Beauty, Butter Bowl, GF Hemerick, Largo, Mandaren's Coat, Mary Elizabeth, Mons Jules Elie, Mother's Choice, Paula Fay, Rosette, Scarlet O'Hara, Shirley Temple, Sitka, Top Brass and Winged Victory. After the discount the prices range from $6.40-12.50, unfortunately the code only works on these few. Free shipping for all orders over $75.
