The Blythe Hill Tavern

This is one way our community can say thank you to a Landlord with passion. He loves golf, horse racing, Gaelic football, rugby, soccer, but more than that, he has won Pub Of The Year for his beer for two years running now. What they fail to mention is his hard work and passion to make everyone welcome, young or old. Children are welcome in his garden; his love of his garden and those who visit it indicate to us the depth of his family values.

How pretty it looks, just thinking how many times I have been in there for a drink and something to eat,
The Publican has worked hard to make the place look so homely, the times that We have walked up Blyth Lane, turned left at the cross roads then right into Ravensbourne Road, 15 years week in and week out, i would love a pound for all the times we walked round there.

Still as good as ever Muriel, best pint of Guinness outside Dublin.
No food no more though, stopped it due to the Turkish cafe opening! Dad was heart broken about that!

I absolutely adore places like that. Neil, you have done a wonderful job of 'capturing' the place through words and photos. I wonder, can I get the gardener to come 'cross the pond and make my place look half so good?

Dear Candyce, It is getting a Green card so you can legally work in the US for even a day that is the problem! For to have all the experience and knowledge that I do does not matter to your Embassy staff, they want every detail about you. Even when I won at Chelsea, I was asked the question could you build me this; yes I could if the powers to be would let me, work legally!
But they will not, even when you mention you were in charge of the National Maritime Museum and the Queens House, the Old Royal Observatory and the Royal Arsenal at Woolwich, they are not interested.Try to speak to your Embassy staff about putting a Jekyll Garden back together, and they look at you like you are talking a different language!
Kindest Regards.
Neil.

Dear Maridell, thank you for your comments. Beer & Gardening do work, but in my case they can also be a hindrance! For everyone knows who I am, so to get a bit of peace & quiet is nigh on impossible!
You just have to get a pint and sit down and they start wanting to know what to do with a plant they have. Then try to describe it as "green with yellow bits on it!"
Someone trying to describe a plant when they have had a few pints can be a pain. So I tell them to bring a bit in; that could be anything from a leaf to half a shrub they have cut down to show me, or a sketch of something. Sometimes it can be amusing when there treasured plant is a common weed!
Regards.
Neil.

So basically you have the same problem as doctors with people wanting free advice... only you are a plant doctor!

I admit one of my first ID questions on DG turned out to be a weed. *Blush*

Me too, sort of!!

Meridel, my first question on DG was a Japanese something or other. Tall-growing, nice little flowers, but highly invasive. I liked it. Oh well!

Well not quite! I was a mere Apprentice for seven years, doing college as well. That is where you learnt your trade, not at college but on the Victorian parks and gardens! Then University, Head Gardeners jobs, winning Chelsea to being in charge of the Queens house!
That is what the people remember me for, not Chelsea or doing a Jekyll garden, being at Greenwich! Plus they want me to help out.
Doctors and solicitors\lawyers get paid, as a mere Head Gardener you don't! One rule for them and one for us mere mortals!
Regards.
