A few years ago I bought a daylily called Eleonore from Roots and Rhizomes. It's supposed to be by Heemskerk, an 06 model. Well, when I search for it in the data base I come up empty, and when I search by hibredizer, it's not listed for Heemskerk. I'm guessing it was named but not registered.

I didn't think they could have a name officially unless registered.

Just by googling it it looks like Heemskerk is in the Netherlands. I see that some of their daylilies are registered but not the one you have. Maybe contact them and ask them about it http://www.heemskerkplants.com...

Daylilies do not have to be registered to have names. It just keeps things from getting confusing if they arte officially registered.

There is a daylily registered by that name, but not the one you bought. The sight you bought it from says it was bred in Holland.

What Michele quotes above is absolutely correct. AHS's position is that we strongly encourage hybridizers to register cultivars BEFORE they are put out in commerce, so as to avoid confusing or upsetting their customers. However, this is a voluntary process and we are not the daylily police. Those who do not register are in effect selling seedlings with no guarantee that the name will be honored or protected once in commerce. Buyers also have the responsibility ( if registration is important to them) to check before they purchase to verify if the cultivar is registered. Unregistered cultivars cannot ever be eligible for any AHS Awards, shows, or be shown or mentioned in the Daylily Journal. Of course, this does not matter to many people. But if you are spending big bucks for the latest and greatest new intros out there, why would you do that only to find out later that you have bought a seedling that is not registered? Is an unregistered seedling really worth that $200 asking price? Caveat Emptor .

The hybridizer listed above has some daylilies in commerce that have not been registered. Others are registered. This practice regrettably, does cause confusion!

Well, I learn something new every day. Thanks for all the information. This was one I bought years ago. So, as far as I'm concerened, it's a NOID. I bought some from our local state DL club last year, and they let us chose a bonus from a box as we were leaving. When I got home I noticed that it was "unregistered" It's name was "Greystone Rags To Riches" I wouldn't have taken it if I had been paying attention. It's kind of cute though. So I have a couple of NOIDS. lol

When I first started I didn't think named daylilies wouldn't be registered. Lol.
I got caught with five that weren't registered. I was unhappy when I found out. Now they are big clumps it is hard to dish them. But the rust-worthy ones are going to go, I have finally decided....after the next flowering season.

I wanted this DL when I saw it in the R&R catalog also. I remember not being able to find it anywhere else. But I quit ordering from R&R as I thought their beautiful cover was much better than the plants! How is this plant doing for you?

Tom, I bought the same one from them but it didn't look anything like their picture or anything like your picture either. They gave me my money back. Their picture was so pretty I ordered from other sources, I don't even remember where now, but I got the daylily that matched the picture. Where I ordered it, It said "Also know as Lace Babydoll". This is what I got.
This one looks exactly like the picture R&R was selling as Eleonore. I don't know if this is a help to you or not. I was also very confused about the Lace Babydoll and Eleonore being interchangeable. I'm not familiar with how all that works, but maybe he registered it later as Lace Babydoll?

I quit buying from them years ago. This one they called Eleonore is not really at all like their pictures. I found that to be true of nearly every one I got from them. They were such small starts that it took some up to 4 years to bloom. Your "Lace Babydoll" is much nicer.

I quit buying daylilies from them a long time ago too. I tried to get Eleonore twice from them, ( not to bright I guess,) but I really fell in love with the picture of it. Awesome Blossom was one of the times when it was suppose to be Eleonore, so that at least was a bonus. I have others too from them that I still have no idea what they are. Live and learn I guess.

Tom, your picture looks a lot like ULTRAVIOLET MOOD with the appliqué throat.

Glen, It is similar to ULTRAVIOLET MOOD. Susie, It's OK to make a few mistakes, that's how we learn. I think I might have made a mistake once too!
