Linda - Thank you for your compliment on my pallet project!
I am a gardener on a tight budget, so many things I see that might be tossed, could be and often are re-purposed in my garden. The mailbox had been hit by a construction truck (which bent it up). We replaced the mailbox right away and then later I was getting ready to throw the damaged one in the trash and I decided I would first try banging the dents out with a hammer so it would close. Much to my surprise ... it worked! So there was NO WAY I was going to throw away a perfectly good mailbox! LOL! And it just happened to be a large mailbox, so works great for hand tool storage. Now I don't have to walk all the way back to my screen porch, the garage, or my kitchen to get the tools I need at any given time, which saves me time! I find that I look at objects differently now that I spend so much time gardening! The question always is, "Can I re-purpose it and use it in my garden?" rather than send it to the landfill.
