This year I have had alot of buds and blooms with insect damage. I have seen earwigs in the flowers, and I am wondering if they are the culprits? Japanese Beetles have been around too.... What do you think?

Earwigs are always present. I don't think they do much damage. I would say Japanese beetles could do damage as do thripes and spider mites.

Growgirl,
I don't have any insects so far that do damage like that, could it be from a falling limb?

Almost looks like a bird was pecking at it. They do that to my ripening tomatoes, leaving a triangular punch/tear if deep enough.

I agree with Ken, I was going to say bird. I always have earwigs in the flowers and haven't seen damage like that.

Never thought of birds! My husband feeds them well. I might have to buy a slingshot Rolling on the floor laughing
