I have this daylily seedling that started out as a regular daylily seedling, but over the last few days the new leaves have turned variegated. Is this good or bad?

I would watch it to see if any more leaves look like this. While an albino seedling is doomed since a complete lack of chlorophyll production is the cause, white streaks should not be a problem (and greatly wanted for ornamental purposes) as long as it is not caused by a disease.

White Stripe has variegated leaves and regular leaves, and a nice white flower.

I have White Stripe and it is a pretty flower, but I have not seen variegation in the foliage on mine. Sometimes they loose it. Sad

Jon, you might want to take a look at this recent thread that has some photos of variegated foliage.

Just chiming in to say I think it's "good!" Any time you see something different it is something new to learn about, whether it is stable or not, whatever its cause might be, and in the end it might turn out to be something that is quite special. I hope you'll keep us updated over time as the leaves grow further, it is bound to help us all learn more, and then it would be "very good"! Thumbs up

Did white stripe have variegation when you first got it? Mine is still variegated, but not every fan. I wonder if the ar. fans need to be separated out, or whether it is better to have both.

Thank you all for the replies.

caitlinsgarden, no, the seedling did not have the variegation when it first came up. The first two or three leaves had no variegation, but then the rest have variegation.
