River has been bathed multiple times in skunk odor removal stuff that we got at a pet store and also the tomato juice method. He kept trying to eat the tomato juice though LOL. You think the odor is fading after you have been inside for a while, but then you go out and come back in and the smell is still very strong. Pee ewwwww.

aspenhill said:River got sprayed by a skunk this morning on his early morning walk. Boy does the stink waft through the house. He is pretty bewildered that he keeps getting shooed off the couch and nobody will pet or hug him right now. He hasn't much liked the multiple baths either Rolling on the floor laughing

Poor boy - any charcoal based pet shampoos out there?
“Little girl, why are you doing this? You can’t save all these starfish. You can’t begin to make a difference!” After a few moments thought, she bent down, picked up another starfish & hurled it as far as she could into the ocean. Then she looked up at the man and replied, “Well, I made a difference to that one!” Be the change you wish to see in the world. http://www.stillsthatspeak.com...

Here are a couple of homemade recipe ideas. A concoction of baking soda, hydrogen peroxide and dish soap is mentioned a lot online so maybe it works Crossing Fingers!

Mythbusters tried several different recipes once and decided the baking soda and peroxide mixture worked better than tomato juice.

Poor baby. Put on some old clothes and cuddle him properly!

Well, the skunk episode is mostly behind us now. You can really only smell it on River now when he is wet ,and the odor in the house isn't very strong anymore either Hurray! Probably won't stop him from going after another skunk if he sees one though. Yesterday he was proudly toting some kind of dead animal that he found in the woods when Lowell was taking him for a walk - kind of looked like a turkey. Lowell managed to get it away from him, but not before he had contentedly rolled in it. Drug him by the ear for yet another bath Rolling on the floor laughing

We have a new pup in the family. Hurray! His name is Darth, and he is a 4 year old dachshund with shades of beagle. He was a surrender to a dachshund rescue after his companion dog died and he was left at home alone, while his 1st responder owners were at work. He and Alfie seem to be bonding well, and Holly got her lap dog. So far he's been a little gentleman whose only oddity is dragging any used clothing he finds to the hallway. Maybe he's trying to teach us to make better use of the hamper. Hilarious! Nothing like finding used undies, socks, and tees on your way to the bath in the dark. Rolling on the floor laughing

Rolling on the floor laughing That's David.

Thanks all!

Sally, He's had that name for 4 years, so renaming would be hard. Just how many words rhyme with Darth ? I thought of hearth, but that doesn't seem appropriate.

You could rename with a "Da*" word, if "Darth" isn't working for you. Dan? Daryl? (He looks like a Danny Boy to me rather than like a Darth Vader!)

Actually, I think he'd respond to whatever you called him regularly, especially if you mixed in "Darth" with the other name at first. And especially if you followed up with a treat! (Theresa's dad had a dog, real name might have been Roy?, but I think he thought his name was either "Puppy" or "Biscuit!" as in "come here and I"ll give you a biscuit."
