The voles got to it. They invaded one corner of the garden. They do their dirty work invisibly under the snow during winter. All that was left of six others was a handful of scales Grumbling

Ewww! Luckily I have not had a problem with voles or moles. That's a shame! Hard to fight what you can't see. Glare

One of these little scaled Asiatic bulblets formed curls on the leafs. What causes that?

It doesn't appear that both leaves are coming from the same bulblet?

Both are on the same one. I couldn't get a picture with the two curls and base on the same picture---something always in the way. Anyway, I wasn't too concerned. I was just curious why this happens, Too much food, too fast, perhaps? Just curious.

Catherine--just 'checking in' to see how your scale bulblet clones are doing or if there's anything you'd like to ask. Smiling

I did plant 3 of them just to see how they would do. The others I still have in the covered bag letting them grow to see how big they will get. Yes, I do have a couple of questions. When should I plant the bulblets? How long should I let them grow in the bag?

Before I can suggest, I need to ask a couple questions.

1. How do the scales look? Are they still white and appear quite solid or are they turning brown and look shriveled?

2. How do the bulblets look? Are they getting larger or staying about the same?

3. Do you see anything that looks like a white root coming out from the top of any of the bulblets?

4. Do you have refrigerator space where these could be stored just as they are in their present bags (chilled) from late October until early February?

I believe I'm going to tell you to continue growing these for as long as possible, hopefully until late October when they can be put directly into their chill cycle. But I have be sure, just as if I were standing there looking at these with you discussing it with you before I decide. That's why I ask the questions.

Also, on those three you potted up, how are they doing? They should be coming up about now. Smiling

The scales are still pretty white and look pretty good.

The bulblets are still pretty small. They look a little bigger but not much.

There were 3 that had the "white root" coming from them, those are the 3 I planted.

Yes, I do have the fridge space that I could store them if need be.

Here's a pic of the 3 I planted.

OK, good. Let's go for it. Let's continue to grow those out in the baggies as long as we can. If they currently are in a warmer place of something like 70 to 75'F, try and move them to a little cooler spot, say somewhere around 65 to 70'F if you can. This will slow them down just a little.

The three you planted look good, too! That little white root we referred to is actually the stem of the cotyledon, but it sure looks like a root to most people. That's why I always refer to it as such in a discussion. Whenever you see that forming, you have to pot ASAP because that thing will grow 2 inches a day if you let it and it is easily broken off during potting. They look nice and healthy and no need of feeding just yet. Keep the soil in a moist to dry condition. Water by soaking from the bottom. If the bulblets lift out of the soil as I think I see in the picture, just add a little more media to keep them covered.

The only other question/suggestion I have is about the pot you have the first three planted in. The material appears to be some kind of semi translucent or semi transparent plastic which may allow some light transmission though it. Roots like it dark! If you think light is getting through, wrap the pot with aluminum foil.

You're doing great, Catherine! Thumbs up Hurray!

Okay, I will wrap something around the pot, lol (cut off half gallon milk jug). I will also move the bulblets to somewhere a little cooler and continue to let them grow. Thanks for all the help! I really appreciate it and you checking back on me. Thank You!
