They might do in zone 7.
They grow on the B.C. coast.
I have them north of the house so shaded, and in a peaty (acidic) bed.
Watch out for slugs too.
Some say grow north of a deciduous tree or shrub.
I tried them from a mail order and they did not live. I never tried from seeds. I saw them all over Alaska. I thought I could certainly grow them because we are not that hot here.
I planted two small plants in a semi shaded area and they just went downhill. Totally could. Not thrive in our hear even on north side of house. They are SO beautiful.
