Doesn't look like the kind of crabgrass that is common around here. But if you want to try something, Bayer, IMO, makes the best crabgrass killer that is safe on your lawn. It also kills some other types of weeds that traditional weed killer won't take care of because those weeds mimic grasses too closely... Foxtail, Sandbur, Japanese Stiltgrass, and a few others.

There's a slight 'banded' color on the leaves.. maybe an escaped ornamental of some kind?

Big challenge- Hedges. Typically are made of shrubs that want to be much bigger than the space allowed. SO they need pruning usually on the hottest couple days of the year. And if not kept solid, other things grow up through them. I am trying to bring a semblance of order back to an old forsythia 'hedge' and get it, and its accomplices Virginia creeper and grapevine, off my neighbor's garden fence. And for all this labor you usually have minimal interest or value to wildlife.
Plant it and they will come.

My big challenges this summer are plant diseases, probably brought on by a combination of excess rain in June, overhead watering in July and the sweltering heat. My Sedum ternatum took a huge hit; it rots at the ground level and pieces break off. Fortunately, the pieces I rescue and pot root well enough to be replanted, and the organic disease spray seems to be helping.

Sally, if you're wanting to kill off the creeper and grape, get some Bayer Advanced Shrub Killer (It's in a blue bottle.) from Lowe's. Cut the vines off about a couple of feet above the ground. Everything above the cut will die off. Take the 'live' ends and stick them into the weed killer. They should suck it up and kill off the entire plant, where ever it is. Or, you could just spray the stuff on the leaves on a warm day.

We managed to get rid of all of our creeper a few years ago. Now, it's making a comeback from somewhere.

Sound advice Rick, I don't know why I keep at the elbow grease method.
Plant it and they will come.

This year I thought I'd finally get a few peaches to ripen and taste. I never spray and they usually drop due to fungus or drought. They were still there last week, lots of them, small and not perfect but maybe some parts would be useable. Came back from the weekend and cannot find a single peach on the tree. Bizarre. They are not on the ground, not even moldy mummies (well a few). I can only guess they were close enough to ripe that critters ate them all. Blinking

I'm really thinking more about what works and what I will actually use/ enjoy/ share and is worth the effort. Blueberries grow well, problem free, if I don't pick them birds will.
Plant it and they will come.

Yeah. I used to have a peach tree. One year, it had all kinds of peaches on it. And the next day, they were gone. All I can think is that the deer had a snack. But I got the last laugh... the tree died the following winter. Sighing!

Now, I just go to the grocery store. Safeway has nice peaches through tomorrow for $1.99, normally $2.49. Good flavor and freestone. Code #4044 or 4404 (not sure which)

Bummer about the peaches, Sally, but I bet some critters really enjoyed them! Squirrels probably carried away many of them.

I used to have fairly good results with strawberries, as long as I picked them a day or two before they were ripe; otherwise, chipmunks ate them.

I pulled weeds yesterday after work, the weather was so wonderful. Filled up the garden cart. Even felt like a lumberjack for a few minutes, got out my saw and cut down the Caster Bean plant that was leaning. Today have to weed the roadside in front of the stone wall. I'll have to get some pictures of my Red Carpet Sedum, in places it is growing nicely down the rock wall.

Got the front weeded and did some deadheading. Front looks pretty good at the moment. Walked around the car in the driveway to be surprised by two deer in the yard (our regular two deer). This time they didn't stamp their hooves at me, they went back to eating and I did what I was doing.

Did some weeding before it got hot out today. The cartful of weeds came from this smallish area. I think I will be planting some hostas there.
Benby was on the deck above me offering his help.
