While feeding the barnyard birds this morning I noticed the sorghum grown up and looking great in the field where the seeds drop from the bird feeder. Last year I was able to get quite a bit and dry it before the birds or weather ruined it. I love putting it with wild grass and other wild things that come up from the bird seed. I call it my bird seed design. I have it in the house to hide the side of the old TV in a puter pitcher. Certainly is a cheap and pretty thing to do for fall. Of course mine stays in all year. I use some wheat if I can find any...but eveything in it is wild grown from seeds that the birds eat.
I think it might be fun, with Fall approaching to see what we can find in our yards and fields to dry and make some floral designs. You do not need to be a floral designer to do it either. This is an example of what I did and it cost me nothing. Please remember it is a year old and the dog throws his ball on it, it gets knocked over once in awhile, but it is still pretty and I love the idea that we can dry almost anything we grow and make a design if we try.
