Baker Creek said I was welcome to use their catalog illustration for "Dutch Corn Salad" on ATP as long as they are credited.

I thought I would look for other vegetable entries with no illustration, that Baker Creek has photos of, and ask to display those also.

That felt like promoting ATP to baker Creek, and vice-versa.

Which reminds me ... when I post a photo to a plant database entry, is there a way to include a caption or banner "Image courtesy of Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds"? Or should I use a photo editor to add text into the image itself?

We have done this with numerous other companies in the past. I simply activate the link in the code so that when "Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds" appears in the caption it automatically makes it a hyperlink. I'll add that now.

Wow wow, wow, wow! Baker Creek!! I have their beautiful catalog on top of my piles of books on my coffee table right now. If they would allow all of the images, that would be awesome! I have a script that I had been using to contact nurseries, haven't emailed anyone in a while as I am slowing still working my way through 2 other sites, adding photos in my spare time.
If they want any copyright directly on the images as well, you do that through your preferences Rick, set the watermark to read something like 'Image courtesy of Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds' and it puts that script on the bottom of the images as you upload them. Just remember to undo it when you add your own images again. nodding

Thanks, both of you! I'll do both of those things.

I mean, I just did both of those things.

Nice! I'll make a list of other plants where the database needs an image and Baker Creek has one, then send Kathy at BC a link to the Dutch Corn Salad entry, and ask if I may do the same with a list of cultivars.

You probably wouldn't really need to send them a list of cultivars, just ask if they are agreeable to the way the one you just added looks, and if you can continue to add as you come across missing images in our database. That way, if you only want to do one type of veggie for instance, someone else here ( like myself or another admin) can also add images from their site over time. I haven't checked their online catalog in a while but I know their printed one is huge.

Huge and gorgeous! I think of it as "garden pornography". When I have an issue 3-4 years old, I donate to some doctor's office waiting room.

I thought I would start gently with just 4-6 more items, then let Kathy tell me to go ahead and "continue as before".

>> someone else here ( like myself or another admin) can also add images from their site over time.

That was what I hoped would happen.

One thing, though ... I feel like I should save up any acorns I earn this way and find a way to credit them to Baker Creek. Maybe as a not-a-raffle consolation prize "donated on behalf of Baker Creek".

You earn them for the work/time for adding them, and then hopefully add details as well which will earn you more acorns. Since their linked site is attached to each image, that is a potential customer for them. Thumbs up
