I uprooted one in a garden bed and then wished I hadn't. Found this growing in a crack and would love to know its name.

That's a bit magnified and not very well focused. I can try for a better picture if necessary. Grows low in a mat, the leaves are a bit spiny to the touch, pretty white flowers.

That looks like Bedstraw. Is it really clingy or sticky? If it is its Bedstraw. Its sometimes called Catchweed too because it clings to clothes.

Purple sounds certain! :D

Shade, it is not clingy or sticky at all. I'm wondering if Bedstraw is also called Cleavers -- it does look a bit similar, but this is a lot tinier.

I'll google up Polypremum precumbens and look at images, that should tell me for sure.

Thanks!

And, yes, that's it. Common names juniper leaf or rustweed, according to Wikipedia.

Thanks much!

I agree, your plant sure looks to be Juniper Leaf/Rustweed! I submitted a proposal to move your picture to the database so you will receive an Acorn for the photo.

Why, thank you kindly! I could wish it were a better shot but my camera has its limits.

Kyla, you are very welcome! If you can get a closer shot mainly of the flowers for the database, that will earn you another acorn. And, a photo of the stems would earn you an acorn too ... and a photo of the leaves would be even another acorn. Green Grin!

If you have it on auto focus, I've found it easier to get a sharper close-up by putting the leaf, bug or whatever on a sheet of plain white paper or something else without a pattern. Then the camera doesn't try to focus on the background.

Thanks for the tips, Lin. Honestly, it is SO tiny, getting a shot of just the flower or just a leaf seems beyond my reach.

I'll play with the white paper suggestion, though, thanks sooby. Autofocus is all I have, this is a pretty basic camera but it does pretty well under most circumstances.

I've done the same thing with placing a stem with leaves on a piece of white paper to try to get photo's. For a flower photo, since the bloom is white it would be good to use a dark background, a piece of black or dark greet fabric or paper could work.

This native is much more interesting than grass, IMO. I try not to step on it, it's welcome to all of the mowed area it wants. Wish they sold bags of seed!

Polypremum procumbens is apparently a native in a lot of areas of North America and looks similar to something I've seen growing around here that we've always pulled up. I'll have to watch for the one I'm thinking of and get some photo's for comparison.

I have the feeling this one doesn't mind being stepped on. The one I pulled out ( Crying ) was growing next to some creeping phlox and the foliage is quite similar although clearly leaves are smaller. I was clearing around behind the phlox so I could transplant some iris there and almost without thinking pulled this little rustweed right up. Immediately regretted it! but too late. I'm going to keep my eyes open for more, but the lawn area isn't likely to have any (crabgrass clover and something else I should ID but which is not desireable. Has burrs for seeds.)

Sounds like my lawn; I think Florida has every weed known to man and then some! Our lawn has large areas of crabgrass and all kinds of weeds; one in particular that makes me crazy. I got an ID for it this year (Tropical Chickweed - Drymaria cordata) and it has little sticky seeds that cling to everything! We have a Golden Retriever and his long fur gets covered in those sticky-ticky little things!
