My hardy hibiscus has set few seed pods, out of 20 flowers I only have 2 buds growing. I grew this plant from seed so I assume it shouldn't be sterile. Are hibiscus self sterile and need cross pollination? My plant has gorgeous flowers and green leaves looks healthy. The thread "What kind of Hardy Hibiscus is this?" in Plant ID forum

I tried cross pollinating with wild pink swamp rose mallow, could this be why?

Also, some buds are 3 per single stem (almost conjoined) is this abnormal?

Conjoined stem buds, notice stem thickness.
