Oooo...a donkey AND a goat. A cute little miniature goat. Pedro and Elaine would be such good friends...and they'd live with the hens and eat the tall grass and brush.... I do NOT see a down side to this! Elaine would never eat the plants and flowers....she'd be a perfect little goat... *runs to find Husband and present new idea* Thank You!

Hi all! Yesterday, a friend and I visited Seasons Past Farm and Garden Nursery in Littlestown PA, just south of Gettysburg. DEFINITELY worth a visit. It's not a huge place, but they have a lovely selection of stuff, and some beautiful display gardens to wander thru. Got all sorts of great ideas. Very good selections of Japanese maples and hostas...lots of different varieties. Also a garden/gift shop that's full of nice things. Very knowledgeable staff/owners, very friendly. A bit pricey but worth it. And since it's so close to historic Gettysburg, you can combine a visit to the Battlefields with a visit to the nursery.

Yes it does! and I haz a jealous about being able to tour around and visit nurseries. Did I ever post here about Sandy's Plants? Well, they're local to here, and they are wonderful, grow great plants, so big you have to get around in a little cart which they provide for customers. I know my little local garden center gets plants from them, and I have bought price-reduced (end of season) potted sempervivums via those locals, from Sandy's Plants, that were a great value and would have been at twice what I paid. I have only been out there once, and barely saw anything, it was end of day, chilly and windy, so the trip was curtailed a bit early. Sad

Field trips to local nurseries, just to look around and check em out (and of course end up buying stuff!) are great! I'm hoping to go a bit further afield this summer so Sandy's Plants will go on my list and in my GPS! The neat thing about Seasons Past is it's so near Gettysburg, so it would make a nice trip. (The Gettysburg Visitors Center is only a few miles away and their Cyclorama performance is AMAZING. A must see.)

yes would be great to make field trips to all the terrific nurseries in the area--and Seasons Past sounds really cool. I need to travel tomorrow between State College PA and MD--maybe I could go via Gettysburg! Smiling

Not a nursery, but there's a place along Route 30 between Chambersburg and Gettysburg called Desert Flower...it's this weird, wonderful acre of garden ornaments...some tacky, some gorgeous...plus a store that is packed with gorgeous treasures for garden and home... They've got everything from bears to bird baths, fountains, gnomes, you name it. PLUS...if you pay cash there is a 30% (THIRTY PERCENT) discount! The prices without discount are not bad, with the discount they're wonderful. It's definitely a place to stop if you're on your way to Gettysburg via Rte. 30.

Santa Rosa sells landscape plugs! Hurray! I had no idea they did this, except for the sedum mixes.

Their prices are at least $5-10 more expensive than North Creek, but still much cheaper than buying gallon-sized plants. And you don't have to be a retailer to order from SR.

Shipping is around $10 for one tray and $13 for two. Coupon codes don't apply, though.

@aspenhill and @critterologist, I thought you might be interested.
