This is what I call a fantastic Bonsai Acer palmatum 'Osakazuki'.
Though I could never afford to pay for one this old!

I'm thrilled by the seeds a teacher of mine who is a Master Gardener has sent me and would like to ask you to weigh in on them. I know it might be different planting the seeds here as oppose to Britain but could some give me the basics such as sunlight (remember we have fierce after noon sun), fertilizing, etc.
They are:
1). White nicotiana (I've grown this and think I remember they are easy)
2). Mondara (never grown)
3). Columbine. Don't know which. Her instructions on these say: in the fall sow seeds in full sunny spot or afternoon
shade. Press into soil. Blooms early in spring. Deadhead to keep flowering. Great self-seeder.
4). Purple coneflower. Have grown these and understand their care.
5). Foxglove. Never grown.
6). Hyacinth bean. Understand their needs.
Thanks, Lee

Mondarda Bee Balm Love Love Love it. it is really easy to grow. If it weren't I'd have killed many a few years ago. It just keeps growing. It does reseed itself at least it has in my neck of the woods. But the bees and butterflies love it here and even seen hummingbirds on them a time or two.

Cece, I'd be glad to share some of the sees with you two, or as we say here in the Deep South, y'all. as she sent me plenty. If you would like some just give me your address and I'll half them with you with pleasure.
Lee Big Grin
I'm sharing a little more than half with you as I've come to realize I have more than enough plants now.

That so nice of you, I'll c-mail you my address.

I lived down south for the first 10 years of my life. "Ya'll" bout drove my yankee grandparents nuts. Along with crick, for creek, dubbya for double u, pop instead of soda,

I love the South. Oh we were from Texas.

LOLOL at the y'all that drove your folk crazy. I say creek. I say something like dubbya.
People tell me I have the deep South accent as if I'd walked off the set of 'Gone with the Wind'. I'm not aware of it.
Often, people think I'm from New Orleans and indeed I spent lots of time there but I'm not aware I picked up that wonderful accent. To me it's beautiful as is New Orleans.
So you are true Southerner. Good. We can relate better then.
I was born and reared only about 75 miles to the S/W of here and it amazes me how my accent and the peoples' here in the AL area have more of a twang. I suppose it's because they are so much closer to the foothills of the Appalachians.
My family is Scots/Irish with a little Flemish thrown in and were in this country in the early 1700's according to the DAR papers. Most are in the DAR and Colonial Dames, so they know our history.
I have the surname Hollimon. Can't find the derivation of that though.
Until later and I'll have your shipment to you by the end of next week if that is ok with 'Y'ALL'. LOLOL Rolling on the floor laughing

Strange you mention Indian. My maternal grandmother was 1/8 Chickasaw. My home town is Okolona, MS where many Chickasaws lived. So, we have many things in common. Heck, we might even be kin.

55° & rainy here, the weeds love it. Wind knocked over family Sarah Bernart peonies. they did very well this yr as when the rains come over the stems go. I do have ring 'holders' but they just bend over those. that cultivar is known for its weak stems, however they came from my childhood home in Wisconsin.

Dear Lucy. it is cold and windy here to! A lady down the road who is elderly lost a beautiful Freemontodendron californificum, which is a shame.
With the soil so wet now, and the strong winds it blew over, no hope of saving this wonderful shrub from California. It was in flower as well, which makes it worse.
As usual the sharks moved in as I call them and quoted prices to cut it up for her, some were a ridiculous price. She is a lovely old lady, so I bumped into her and she told me she could not afford to get it done! I did it in under an hour with my Diamond saw and got rid of it for her! She asked what I wanted so I had a cup of tea with her, and told her I did not want anything!
Then to our surprise she knocked on the door and had made us a Trifle, which Sarah loves! That was really nice of her, and she gave me a little Gentian for the garden.
I do not know what has happened to cubits in the last week as everyone has disappeared? Even Richard from Kew has put some lovely pictures on, and just a few people have answered.
I hope you are well and my next Article on Chelsea Part 3 will be out on Tuesday.
Regards.
Neil.
