I have a packet of seeds that are just labeled Browallia Blue Bells. There is no Browallia Blue Bells in our database. When I do a google search on the name it comes up with information indicating that the proper name is Browallia speciosa major "Blue Bells". I'm just not sure if this is a separate cultivar that should be added to the database. Help?

It does appear to be a cultivar, but the botanical name is Browallia speciosa (without the "major"). Here's a new entry for it.

Bush Violet (Browallia speciosa 'Blue Bells')

The epicenter was about 30 miles away, I think. No physical damage here in Sebastopol, but lots of stressed kitties (not to mention the kitties' owner) at my house.

Good to hear everything is ok. You and Sue were my first thoughts when I heard where the quake was!

Thanks, Woofie. Lovey dubby Sue tree-mailed me a few minutes after the quake, so I knew she was okay right away.

Awww, thanks woofie!
Pretty funny, us tree mailing at 3:30 in the morning but I knew she would be up too! I checked the mileage and it was actually just over 50 from the epicenter.

One of the guys where I work was much closer and his dog woke him up 10 minutes prior to the quake, he said he was acting real strange and he let him outside and then the quake hit. Lots of dishes, glasses came crashing down, his son's dresser tipped over. Another friend has her 80 year old father in downtown Napa, all his furniture went flying, his recliner was thrown several feet across the room. His water heater, despite being strapped, fell and was spewing water. Neighbors quickly came to check on him, he was fine and one provided him with a spare generator. He spent the rest of the morning cleaning until his family arrived to help him.

The photos on the news were pretty impressive! Looks to be a lot of structural damage to some older buildings. A pity.
