Oh.. The cactus has flowered...the flower is open for a day..give or take a few hours of the 24....in a day... Funny thing.. A baby taken from the mother cactus about 4 years ago.. lives on a window sill in the Village... It chose the same day to flower..

Hetty years ago..... I posted a picture for an ID . got it figured out in about 30 minutes... but I forget just what it was.....I kind of remember it started with an " A " I'll dig it out from the tomato volunteer that has engulfed it.. for a picture...and get it again.. to me it will always be Velma's cactus... as my mothers twin sister gave it to me... many years ago while she walked this earth.... she always grew interesting things on the delta.. bananas.. eppi's ... and this cactus.....oh got buds on my plumeria... marked singapore.... it was seeds I got from there...can't wait to see it's first bloom
OK Deebie... you're on... how many of these would you like.last year .I gave away maybe 4 dozen to a lady selling things for christmas in her store... she makes up little planters with them... big.. this makes babies like wild fire

Gordon, could your plant possibly be a Euphorbia? Maybe euphobia meloformis-

On second thought, maybe not. I see that all the flowers on the euphorbias are tiny. Sorry.

The long flower tube is typical for Echinopsis.

ThanksUrsula... I'll submit it for a second opinion...too. I believe it looks enough like it to be happy with the call..
Audrey..that's my friends plant on her window sill in the village..as I recall four years ago when it went in there mentioning to her it had no drainage..she had been growing things with success in square glass containers..so she thought it would be ok. It's small as is the cactus after all these years.. It really gets little direct rain inside the window sill and she waters it accordingly..
I'll submit these pictures for id

I was asking about the drainage hole because at least 50% of my plants including succulents and cactus are grown without drainage. I know, I know everyone scream with shock but my response is plants in the ground do not have an invisible hole in the bottom of the ground.

But it is my success. I do not water plants in doors for the winter. The cactus and succulents may get a sip once a month if I have the time. When they are outside I just tip the pots if we get a lot of rain and they seem to love it. I can find such pretty pots when I do not have to worry about drain holes. Rolling on the floor laughing
