I second what Jan asked. What other amendments can be added?

I tried to look up Glacial Point...I think you meant Glacier Point?

I too would be interested in learning more about amendments for irises...maybe we should start a new thread for this discussion so it would be easy to find for future reference?

Marilyn,

You are correct. I fixed it in my post. It was named for the spot in Yosemite National Park over looking the valley below.

Well, I have started my tally for next year. I broke down and ordered some iris I have always liked but never got around to ordering. They won't arrive until next summer so I am safe from them counting for this year. Hilarious! They include Cherry Blossom Song, Oklahoma Bandit, Poem of Ecstasy, Sugar Magnolia, Praetorian Guard, Gerry Atwell, Sunbreak.....

I also rescued some rhizomes from my neighbor that were being eaten by grasshoppers and withering in a shady garden. I was able to save 15 small rhizomes but don't know what they will grow into! Some, I suspect are more Acoma. They are wintering over in pots so it may be awhile until I see them bloom. I am guessing also, that they are only two or three cultivars tops.

And my rotted out rhizome of Venitah Faye has sprouted new growth!!! I am babying it inside because it was a new iris for me this year, and after losing Redrock Princess completely Sad I wanted to see if I could will this one to survive. Smiling

I have Sugar Magnolia on order for next year also. You have made some really nice selections, Leslie. I hope you have good luck with Venitah Faye.

Thanks! I forgot to add that I also ordered Vapor which I love! Lovey dubby I thought I should finally get the ones I first wanted, but put off for some odd reason. And you will have to let me know how Gerry Atwell does for you Mary Ann. I couldn't turn it down a second time. Sticking tongue out Go for the Cherry Blossom Song!

Out of curiosity, where are you placing orders for next year? I though when sellers closed for the season they would not accept orders until January or February.

I couldn't resist taking a look at ebay. I bought 2 Fortunate Sons and a Rustler.
It's a gamble - but it satisfied an itch that needed scratching!. I realized that I don't have many red irises, and I didn't want to wait
another whole year (or two) !
I may be into straightjacket territory by now.

'Cherry Blossom Song' is very pretty.. Hasn't increased a lot for me though.
'Venita Fay' has been wimpy thus far.
Just stuck 'Vapor' in the ground last week..

I added some reds this year because I only had 'Dynamite'.. I added 'Red Dirt Road', 'Cherokee Blaze', 'Almaden' & 'Ranger'. 2 Moderns, 2 Historics. Keeping things balanced..

Oh... 'Sugar Magnolia'..sigh... one more to add to my list for next year... You guys have been terrible for keeping my list at a manageable level.

Wow, Jan... ordering Iris for Halloween Smiling I'm definitely done.. I picked up a 'Sugar blues' at the nursery a couple weeks ago... It had been sitting there for awhile and I felt sorry for it Hilarious!

Does anyone have a photo of Gerry Atwell? It's not in the ATP database or on the AIS encyclopedia. I'd love to see it...although I suppose I can google it. Sticking tongue out Still it would be nice to see it added to the database.

I got mine from Rockytop Gardens -- just checked, and it is not listed in their 2014 catalog, so they have maybe discontinued it? I'll add it to the database next spring if it blooms for me.

You can see it at Wild Iris Rows Marilyn. It is a pretty ruffled red. And you can order with them for next year as part of their 20th anniversary celebration. My order won't be delivered until next August. I got 12 in all - those mentioned above and the SDB Dede Dinah, and TB's Speckled Pup, Spiced Custard, and Osay Canuc (Oh say can you see).

Mary Ann - you got your Gerry Atwell from Wild Iris Rows too, btw, because you got the last one before me. Hilarious!

Sherry - Red Dirt Road is a beautiful red. Hope it grows well for you!

Thanks Leslie! Now I'm having fun looking through their listings! Gerry Atwell is beautiful!

In the process I stumbled across an iris that needs to be part of Rob's collection: Under The Sun
