Sherry, I had a similar looking one in the past called 'Strawberry Taffy' but I couldn't tell you for sure.

It was really pretty...until it suddenly croaked. Crying Most Penstemons don't like the heat, humidity and rain here so its demise was no surprise.

Well, in checking it did say that it's not reliably hardy and needs mulching...the pic and ID was for a neighbor who had it here and it died...I suspect the heavy rains here contributed to its demise.
I could be wrong...

The winter hardiness wasn't the problem here. It was gorgeous and blooming in spring and then suddenly collapsed in summer. We had an excessively rainy summer that year and other plants grew like mad and ended up shading it. I think the combination was just too much for it. I was mad at myself for not moving it to a better spot because it really was pretty. Oh well!
