Got Water Bottles?

I was searching for the wrap-around plastic plant labels for my plants and came up with this idea to reuse plastic water bottles.

I've been doing basically the same thing with white plastic containers - sour cream, yogurt, cottage cheese.
I've even used plastic cups.

But does the writing last? We replaced our venetian blinds this year and I cut the string (and saved it) keeping the slats together then tied the bundles of slats using the holes so they don't fall all over. I cut them to size for labels on my poppies and spring planting.

Do you have any pics showing the strips with the plant? You say wrap around. Do you stick them at ground level and circle the plant? Does the writing fade, and how soon? How often do you have to do it for each plant? How many strips do you use for each plant? Confused

Mary & Marilyn,
I've used my grease pen for many years on v. blinds and it is the best pen for me. Writing last many years. I've tried the permanent markers and they did not work as well. A regular pencil does work too.

I wrap the plastic labels around this iris - base of plant. This is probably the easiest to do.

I've wrap them on one stem of plants with many stems.

Thanks! I tip my hat to you. Thumbs up

Do you wrap each label around each Iris leaf stalk?

I picked up a plastic blind at the thrift store for less than a dollar (I don't buy soda and rarely water bottles). I cut the blinds in the lengths I wanted, cutting one end into a "V" for easier insertion into the soil. Sharpies always fade. Use a thicker lead pencil, or oil based paint pens for something more permanent. I still have a lot of the blind left. I also removed the cord and salvaged most of that and cut the blinds into even lengths which are stored in a box in the garage.

Marilyn, I did wrap a label around the leaf stalk.

Elfie, I rescued my neighbors mini blinds - and do exactly what you do with them - cutting the 'V' and then also trimming the sharp corners on the other end to keep from being poked. The grease pen works great for me.
