I saw a bud on one of my spring purchases yesterday!

Going to have to remember to take a photo tomorrow if I can....crazy iris....maybe I've been watering a bit much and it thinks its spring again. O_o Sadly I am going away on Monday for 5 days! Hope it opens quick and I can see it this weekend!!

It may be an iris which blooms twice a year.

Irises that bloom in the spring and at another point, mostly summer and fall, during the same year are called re-bloomers. There are many hybridizers that are encouraging this trait in their new irises. As a result there are many newer irises that are re-bloomers. If you like this trait in an iris check the plant database on this forum under irises to see which ones are re-bloomers and in what zones they re-bloom best. Also, most vendors include this trait in the description of their irises when they are listed for sale. Enjoy your new bloom!

I realized belatedly that this is what "Re-blooming" means. I've seen it mentioned allot and thought I had one or two of them labeled as such but nothing has ever bloomed late summer or fall like this (so mislabeled again) so was under the assumption "re-blooming" was just blooming repeatedly in the spring, so this is a real treat. Going to have to watch out for more of these!

This beauty was labeled as "Cherry Garden", which I risked buying...I wanted a red but the colour was hard to tell from photos online if it would be one I liked or not but am glad I did get this one. It is clearly is not "Cherry Garden" but I like this colour even better. We had torrential rain, major wind from thunderstorms last night so looks like it got a bit beat up but at least I get to enjoy it before I'm gone. :)
Any ID suggestions? It is either dwarf miniature or standard dwarf it looks like to me...gota get the measuring tape out though...

Very nice Brenda! It's always such a treat when one of the re-bloomers decides to put on a show! Sorry I can't be any help on the ID...I'm new and trying (though rapidly weakening) to focus on Tall Bearded iris for now...then in a few years branch out to other sizes and varieties.

It's a Chapman iris (Canada) and I see from the tag you got it from the RBG sale...and he has lot's of his at the RBG gardens, so.......I'd say it's a definite "maybe" Sticking tongue out

I like Forever Blue. I ordered that one this year but the vendor does not grow it any longer. I will need to look for it somewhere else next spring.

Hehe! :)

Looking over my RBG list I had highlighted and gave "Forever Blue" three red asterix (the highest of my "wants") but they had sold out, and Cherry Garden only had one with a note "May be nice?" So colour me happy with that purchase!
