Can you get us a photo of the entire plant, from ground up? Definitely not an elephant ear.
This one doesn't look familiar to me, but we have some members that are great at identifying plants. They should be along soon.

Could you step back and take a photo of the entire plant; please tell us how tall the plant is and/or how long the leaves are.
If you put something in the photo for size reference such as a pen or ruler we could better judge the size.

Random thought. Since it is not Elephant Ear perhaps is could be Elephant Garlic?

If it is elephant garlic you would be able to smell the garlic scent of the plant.

And Elephant Garlic has long, thin tubular leaves like onions or regular garlic. This looks like it could be a type of ginger, though. Very hard to tell until it blooms.

MaryK could you describe what the bulb looked like before you planted it? Was it long and flat like a rhizome? or roundish and pointed like a tulip bulb? Or? What color?

Are you in a warm part of the country, or is this a bulb that dies back in winter and comes up again in spring? Or will it be a house plant? If your friend thought it was an Elephant Ear, well that is a very cold-tender plant. Did your friend have a big plant or clump of the same kind, and give you a division? Did you see the big plant?

the top picture and this one is the whole plant the bulb was round hers looked like a elaphant leave but it was very small like it never grow right it has no scent to it and now i notice the leaves are turning yellow and it never bloomed. i had dug it up from her mother plant and stored it in garge until spring before i planted it

How big was the bulb?

2-3 inches round

Sometimes a baby plant won't bloom the first year it is separated from the mother plant. I wouldn't worry about that, but it does look like it might need a bit of fertilizer. You might need to grow it for another season for it to bloom.

Did your friend's plant have any blooms that you saw? If so, what did they look like?

Was your friend's plant in her garden outdoors or in a pot indoors?

(sorry for all the questions, but your picture doesn't give us much to go on)

All the questions help to narrow things down to an ID.

Since you are the one who knows what the bulb looked like, can you describe it a bit better?
I would hate to suggest digging it up.

I used Google Images and looked for a plant bulb identification aid such as this one:

You could look at other charts of different bulbs and tell us what the bulb looked like by comparing it to the charts.
Not every bulb is listed on the charts but they might serve to help us to 'see' the bulb.

My first impression was the same as Elaine's, a type of ginger. Having let my mind wander, it's telling me there is a resemblance to a narrow leaved Zantedeschia such as Z. rehmannii which is struggling.

It would help to be able to see the 'bulb' or corm whichever it may be, while it's in growth it's best to leave it. If the leaves are yellowing, and if it's a Zantedeschia, they should eventually detach themselves from the bulb or corm rather than leave a dead stem attached to the 'bulb'.

If it is a Zantedeschia they often don't bloom unless the conditions are right. They do need good rich compost to do well but also warmth and sufficient water in the growing season. In our climate they will only do well if we have a good summer and get a head start in a greenhouse, otherwise they struggle, we have a lot of cool summers and cold springs.

Yes I would leave it to die back, then you could lift the bulb or corm and take photos of it to post here then we might be able to give a better idea. A fresh Zantedeschia corm will be a dirty whitish colour with a loose skin, if it's allowed to dry it becomes wrinkly. They usually make more corms with some detached, some small ones still attached.
