I'm growing glass gem corn and sweet corn. I know sweet corn is picked when husk is green but silk is completely brown. Glass gem is popcorn/flint corn so do I wait until husk to pick, I want it to dry to save seed.

I'm also growing Gretel eggplant, its long, thin and white. It said pick early on, but how long should it be when ready?

Field corn, Pop corn, ornamental corn let it completely dry on the stalk. As for the eggplant any time its big enough for your use, but before the shine dissapears. when the color appears dull, it is getting ripe and ripe eggplants are not very tasty.

So when the husk is brown pick it? Can seeds be picked off then or let it dry inside?

I guess the eggplant is ready its still shiny and a few inches long.

I'm not sure about pop corn as I've never grown that, but other corn when the ears are mature will tip down and the husk will become loose. The seeds will become hard and dried and may shrivel some. The plant will become brown and dead. Then you can harvest it. I understand that pop corn needs to be stored in a very dry area for quite a while before it will pop. Maybe someone else who knows more about pop corn can help you here.

According to this http://www.hometownseeds.com/v... 3-4 inches is the ideal size for picking Gretel. They list it as a hybrid. Let a couple grow to 6-8 inches and compare the taste. Then let us know how it compares. Claud
