What did you all find at your local plant sales this weekend?

Here is what I found at the Salem Hardy Plants Sale held at the Rickreal, Oregon Fairgrounds. It is an annual event that is well worth going to.

I also go the cutest little Hosta. I used Paul's photo because I forgot to take a photo of my new plant.

Connie also brought me the amazing Bird's Nest Sansiveria. They are so cool. Now I need to decide what container I will put them in. For Christmas I will decorate them with tiny red bows. Big Grin

They will look real cute with the bows, Lynn. I have used my pot of them to put my veterans' Red Poppies in. Remember they prefer a small pot, not much bigger than the 4" pots they are in. You will know if they go without water too long, the leaves will start looking wrinkly. They rehydrate quickly.

I haven't photographed my small haul. I did get Lynn's generous donation of Dunce Caps planted in temporary containers.

Unfortunately, some of our favorite vendors were missing. Sad

WOW those are pretty. You got some good stuff. I visited the dead plant racks at Lowes and posted what I found I have to get some pics. I have not taken pics of anything in awhile. I really do not like the cameras I got to replace the ones that were stolen. I will be hunting for cameras this winter.

I looks like my tiny sun room will crammed this winter. I sure hope nothing comes up that I have to go to Lowes. I'm with MR, it is hard to pass up on those plants that need some TLC.

I can't wait to see everyone's newly acquired plants.

While on the topic of shopping: I'm sure other catalogs offer it, but I just noticed a moisture detector in McClure & Zimmermann's fall catalog. Has anyone tried one? If it works, that would get rid of the reason I drag my feet over all the stone mulch: how can you tell when the ground is dry? Confused

I've started putting mulch on some of the potted plants under lights that are particularly susceptible to those nasty gnats, and unless someone tells me it's a fraud, I'm thinking to order one of those meters in self-defense... As the catalog puts it, if you got one, you wouldn't have to put up with dirty fingers and nails from digging under the mulch to see how dry the dirt has gotten. Thumbs up

MR I don't have any experience with this type of gardening tool. But I did post a quote of your above post in the Tools and stuff Forum. I think everyone will benefit from answers we may get. The thread "Soil moisture detector" in Tools and Stuff forum
That would sure be a handy tool to have.

Just finished bringing in the pots of saffron crocus and rain lilies -- frost warning tonight and I'd like to keep them going as long as possible before bringing them in to dry out for the winter... Definitely the end of summer! Crying

I love the color along the leaf edges. Really nice Julia.
Lovely Heuchera, and very nice semps. The Sedum 'Isle of Sakhalin' is very interesting.
My old eyes can't see the Gasteria Brevifolia. Is it winter hardy here?

Lynn, it's me not Connie Hilarious! No, it's a house plant that will vacation outside in the summer.

Julia, you have a nice haul. Seems the semp lovers are moving into the Aloes and similar plants now.
I admit to buying some this spring. Guess I better bring them in soon.

No, I have no idea about the semp. Give me a heads up when you come up here and I will E-mail her. She would be pleased to have us. Just not during Saffron harvest Sept/Oct. They are in the foot hills of the Olympics out on the Washington peninsula. Spring would be good as they get snow in November usually. Greg @gg5, you up for another visit? Lynn, I think you and Kathy would really enjoy meeting. Squim Rare Plants is close as well but they don't allow you to tour the nursery, mail order only. They will let you order online then pick up at the nursery, that would be fun also to meet someone from there. Far Reaches is one that has been on my list to visit for years. My garden club is going there in the spring so my wish might come true. Hope it is not the same weekend as the clinic.
