This forum is dedicated to the technical discussion of photography as it relates to gardening. It is not a gallery of photos but rather a place for helping each other become better photographers.

That's a fantastic ratio! I hate to say this, but there have been days that I've shot as many as 4,000 photos and only kept about 200 of them.

But..the beauty of digital photography is twofold - 1) Unlike film, space on that memory card is freeeeeeee! and 2) Feedback happens in real time - you don't have to wait for the film to come back to realize you've made terrible mistakes - or stumbled onto some settings or combination of settings that really work for your subject.

I guess my point is to just shoot shoot shoot and realize that the more that you root around through the shutter, the more likely you are to blind-pig yourself a few acorns to save to your "keepers" folder - and share with the rest of us.

I think that photography is like everything else...just a question of thinking (trying new things informed by good data/ideas/past mistakes) and practice. Unlike it was in the days of expensive film and darkroom supplies (to quote Senator Blutarsky), "it don't cost nothin'."

Welcome to ATP, Evermorelawnless! Yikes, 4000 photos in one day kind of boggles my mind... but yes, that is definitely the beauty of digital photography. So amazing to just be able to see what you caught right away -- in this respect, at least, the "good old days" weren't! Smiling

Hurray!
i've been just shooting whatever made the most impression on me. but now i'll keep the DB in mind and will also take 'approach' shots and more shots of details too.
i find it much harder to take a good landscaping shot, then the close-up. exchanging notes should be lots of fun here!

People love to see landscape shots, but they are so hard to get right. As hard as I try I very seldom am able to take a good landscape shot with my camera. To get much in the picture, it is usually too far away to be able to see much detail. Just a few select areas work for me to take a landscape shot.

I especially appreciate photos of the 'whole plant' so one can see how tall/wide it gets at maturity. Very helpful when deciding where to plant a 4" pot.

I agree. A salvia in a 4" pot can easily end up being 3' tall and just as wide.

Other than batteries. But I've just ordered a plug-in cord for our camera so at least I won't use them up doing indoor shots and uploading, etc... I hadn't realized they made these! MR

I just wanted to bring this Thread to the Top, because I feel sure that some, if not most users, have never scrolled through the below threads, nor read this one. This is a thread, in my opinion, that should be bumped up periodically for the review of all new users (and even those that are not but just first visiting this Forum) (or even be made a *sticky*).

Please make sure to read the very first post . . . I know you all love Dave! I tip my hat to you. to him.
. . . it's always better to ask questions, than jump to conclusions.
AND . . . always hear both sides of the story before making a judgment.

Just what is your problem with that share pics thread?
