Good point, LariAnn. There is such a thing as plants growing too fast and getting too big as well. My plants grow so fast during the rainy season it can be a space/pruning nightmare.

Well, I don't do THAT in the wintertime...............use urea, I mean. I don't fertilize much at all in the g'house during the winter, and not at all from Nov. to late Feb. or early March.

Where do you get urea. Is there a brand name? My ears never get as big as they should but many are contained by pot size. I am planting some in the ground this year to see the difference.

Jan,
Whenever I've gotten urea, it has come in a 50# bag. That works when you have hundreds of hungry Alocasias to feed, but if you have just a few Ears, that would be overkill. It just comes in a bag, labeled "prilled urea". It dissolves completely in water, unless you get the sulfur coated kind that is more of a time release product.

I got it from our farm fertilizer/chemical company. I asked the man nicely for some and he gave me about 10 pounds. Course it helps that we spent about 30 grand for seed and fertilizer and chemicals. LOL

A link to my colocasias and alocasias taken last Sept. I thought I had lost quite a few, but they are still slowly poking their heads up. I remain optimistic! Some of the pots that I've reused have little ears popping up.

I dumped a few pots that had lost the battle over the winter only to find a green taro coming up in the compost bin where I dumped those pots. Hilarious!
I just ordered a Black Magic and Imperial Taro.

Thank you, It used to be my favorite, but now it's Mojito. Every year I think MM's not going to come back...and it does.

Awww Christine, your EE is not plain...it's huge! I'm not sure fall is the best time for trading, as most of you that are east are getting cold and need think about putting thigs away. And right now, we've had days of over 100 for more than a month. I'm not sure, but I think there was talk of a trade forum. Give Dave a little time. He's just getting started!
