This group has always amazed me. How good are you at identifying seeds ? I have a collection of seeds from earlier this year. Instead of writing down the name I depended on my memory? Lol Rolling on the floor laughing The source doesn't remember either! All I know is it is a full sun plant.... that obviously goes to seed.

Just a guess, but they remind me of Bird of Paradise seeds ... Caesalpinia.

I think they're Pride of Barbados, Caesalpinia pulcherrima
I do the same thing and store seeds thinking I'll remember what they are and where I got them!

I do the same too. When spring comes I always have a surprise when I germinate some. Also, some seeds invariably fall out of their envelopes into my seed bins so I collect the mix and have fun!

Cheryl, there are some photo's for seeds of Pride of Barbados (Caesalpinia pulcherrima) in the database for comparison and those in your photo do indeed look like Caesalpinia.

Yep, I was going to say Pride of Barbados also.

I've always known it as Bird of Paradise .. guess I'll have to remember Pride of Barbados instead.

Or Caesalpinia gilleseii aka Mexican Bird of Paradise. Looking at the seed photos, I can't see any difference at all in the appearance of seeds from gilleseii and pulcherrima - either of the pods nor the seeds.

I have both growing side by side. The Mexican BOP has yellow flowers and the leaf structure is different. I have been cutting it back, as it is trying to become a tree. I will try to take a photo of the two to compare the leaves. They may have the same seed sizes and pods. I just haven't let the Mexican BOP go to seed. I don't like it where it is planted and I can't seem to remove it.

At top is the Pride of Barbados. Bottom is Mexican BOP, which I had already chopped to the ground. It was already sending shoots up. The leaves are larger than the Pride of Barbados, at least in my yard they are.
