Don't Throw Out Those Pelargoniums at the End of the Season!

Storksbill geraniums (Pelargoniums) are a beloved staple in summer containers and landscaping. Every fall most of the summer's selections end up being tossed out, or composted, without a second thought. What you might not know is that Pelargoniums are simple to overwinter, and not as houseplants that require care!

When you store them upside down in paper bags, do you use a separate bag for each one?

I put one or two in a bag depending on size. You don't want them too crowded. This is where it might help to cut them back some

I remember my mom hanging these from one end of the clothesline in our basement. We live in Maryland and just as the temps started dipping into the low 40's she would dig them up, wash the roots and let them dry out, trim them back a bit, removing any blooms and dust the cut ends with Cinnamon. She didn't use paper bags. She would replant in the spring. A yearly ritual as we didn't have alot of spare money for plants. Here in Central Florida I can get away with just leaving them in the pot and put the pot in the barn if we are going to have freezing temps.
God gave us wings. He just called them horses

ooh, MJ, that's a great idea! I wonder if that would work with salvias too?
Remember that children, marriages, and flower gardens reflect the kind of care they get.
