In honor of our new friend Kate, here are a couple of new bloomers from the OC (Orchid Conservatory):

First up is Isochilus [Iso.] linearis which grows in its basket out under a live oak tree with little help from me.

Next is Vandachostylis [Van.] Lou Sneary (V. falcata x Rhy. coelestis). The last time I posted this orchid it was a Neostylis so don't be confused.

Lovelies there, Jim. My Vandachostylis seems to be aborting two more flower spikes this week. Sad

The sun is finally out here, but I am once again schlepping the orchids back under cover or into the house against the cold nights coming to come. Down into the 40's again tonight and tomorrow night . . . what a cold November this has been. It also must be some kind of record for rain, because as Jim said above it's usually our driest month. This year, at least 3 big rain events.

Frog strangler. Hmmm. I just added it to my brain.

The sun is finally out here too after a nasty, cold, windy morning. We received about 3 inches of rain yesterday alone so everything is soggy. It is cool and like you say, down into the upper 40s tonight. I went from cool to heat on the house thermostat this morning.

Yep, I had the a/c working yesterday too, but not today! Dry, windy and chilly out there.

Here's the last 'stand' of orchids about to wander into the house for tonight. The living room looks very tropical, as it has the best south-facing window for the 'chids when they're indoors. Nice and warm in there while the wind blows tomorrow.

Phals and begonias get to stay out for some chillin' but they are in a very protected corner with overhangs and two glass doors leaking heat from the house to them.

We have so far about an inch or so of a sloshy mess outside, surely areas north of us got a lot of snow, I think we got lucky! The roads are cleaned up already and good to go tomorrow.

This little C. Loddiglossa 'Honey Ball' SM/JOGA opened a a spike today, but conditions were somewhat too dreary for a good picture. I held it against the living room wall, looking for a somewhat neutral background.

Ooh, I like the spattered paint look on that one. Fragrant?

I hope the Phals handle the cold OK, Elaine.

Not yet, Jim. Perhaps sunshine tomorrow might bring out a scent.

Lots of snow here, at least 8 inches and still coming down. Cricket, the puppy, loved it at first (her antics made me laugh and laugh), now she is not so enthusiastic to go out! Made a blueberry pie with my very own summer picked blueberries for tomorrow. Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm just tapping my foot waiting for blooms. We did have MOS meeting last Sunday. Look at this lovely that won orchid of the month for experienced growers. Don't get too excited. It's not mine. Miltoniopsis Edie Brown. The photos don't do it justice. It has exceptional scent.

Kathy, stay warm, keep dry and by all means have a very happy Thanksgiving. It's always so good to hear from you.

That's a beautiful Miltoniopsis, Melissa. I can see why it won.

It's cold for us Floridians tonight. I'm prepared to cook a nice dinner for Patty and me tomorrow so I think we will just stay cozy in the house.

Melissa, don't mind me if I do get excited, the pictures are simply lovely and in your face gorgeous. Thanks for sharing!!

Kathy, that is harsh!! Fair Lawn was supposed to get 3 to 6 inches, but we dodged that one.

Your cozy dinner for two tomorrow sounds pretty nice, Jim. We are headed over to the Sailing Squadron for potluck turkey dinner with our sailing 'family'. They cook turkeys at the Squadron, supply gravy and potatoes, and everyone else brings their best dish to contribute. It's quite a feast with sometimes 200 people attending. I just hope it's not too windy or cold. Supposed to be 70ish so that will be fine if the wind isn't honking.

Happy, happy turkey day, everyone! My tea light heater is keeping the little greenhouse shelf unit above 60deg. so far, so all the orchids are happy, too.

There is condensation on all of the OC windows so it looks ghostly out there. To all of my ATP friends, I wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving. Eat well and stay safe.
