Quite coincidentally after raising questions about this plant on another thread I've just noticed that mine is starting to flower. Still early in stage of development but here's some photos. I'll post more as the flowers develop some more.

Wow, that's outstanding! I'm extremely interested in seeing how the bloom looks when opened (from both front and side), and especially if the bloom produces pollen at male anthesis. If you can get pictures of all that, plus one of the whole plant overall, I'd be very grateful. It might answer a few questions for me.

Also, if you happen to have any Caladiums in bloom at this time and would like to try a little experiment, let me know. I'm thinking about doing a cross vicariously, crossing the lindenii and a regular Caladium. It is exactly what I would try if I had the plants here with me!

Unfortunately we're 2 days off winter, and although Caladiums show up sporadically I don't think any of them have flowered this time of year.

Photo from yesterday, the spathe is still tightly wrapped but the spadix is managing to push through a little. I wonder if the colder nights trigger the flowering. My Dracaenas are starting to flower and filling the garden with a strong sweet fragrance. And all the Sansevierias (Mother-in-law's Tongues) are going for a mass flowering shortly as well. They fill the air with a strong fragrance when the nights cool off.

Not much change, up to yesterday.

That inflorescence looks to me a little more like a Xanthosoma than a Caladium. This Spring I've pollinated so many Caladium inflorescences that I am pretty familiar with many of the sizes and shapes that can be encountered. None of them have that slight curvature above the swollen part. But then again, nor do the Xanthosoma inflorescences I've seen! I'm beginning to think that lindenii might be a Schismatoglottis - how's that for a shot in the dark?

I have a X. robusta but haven't seen it flower yet. So don't have any idea of how they're supposed to look.

This is the last photo for a while. Tonight I fly out down south to visit family. Won't be back for 3 weeks. The flower probably won't be there by then.

So this one was taken today. The spathe has opened up around the spadix, but the lower chamber is still wrapped up.

Thanks for the pictures! Now that the bloom is open, the spadix looks a lot like the ones on Xanthosoma; the male portion in Caladiums is usually much smoother looking. The bumpier look of this one is more a match for Xanthosoma. The lover chamber should not ever open up, as it does not open in either Caladiums or in Xanthosomas.

I wish you the best for your 3 week visit down south - I know the bloom will be long gone by the time you get back.

Got back home yesterday. The X. lindenii inflorescences were no where to be seen. I dug around in the leaf mulch and there they were all withered. The plant itself was wilting. My automatic irrigation system had failed some time is the past few days. After some hand watering it recovered.

Unfortunately my Cyrtosperma johnstonii was in a very poor state. The wilted leaves were starting to brown off. Heavy watering got them standing up a bit so I'm hoping the plant will recover.

While in Cairns the other day I went into a nursery and saw their X. lindenii were all flowering as well. The whole inflorescence looked identical to mine, no apparent variation. Looks like it's a winter/dry season flowerer.

My plant is flowering again. But if it's not one thing then it's another. The other week they were affected by a glitch in the irrigation. Now something has chewed through the stems of the larger leaves. And I've also been invaded by Jungle Fowl that are trying to dig all my plants up. These are some battles I could do without

Wow, sounds like you've got some mean bush out there when it comes to your plants!
