I bought this little plant from a private gardener who gathered plants from all around the world. He is closed now but this little bamboo reminds me of his giant bamboo gardens. From what I read, they are evergreen. But my pot that sits in the greenhouse in a bright corner is turning colors. Previously, it was in the shade. Should I move it to a darker corner? Warm is up some? Help??

Even tropical bamboo takes fairly cold temperatures, and full sun, too. It may just be having a "fall" moment. Leaves on mine don't look very lush and green right now either. It's also dropping a lot of leaves as well as its boots. We've had one night in the 40's so far, and many into the 50's so it's stopped growing.

Are you watering it a lot? Mine (big variety 30ft. tall) gets no water besides rain ever. Winter is cool and dry here so it goes for sometimes a month or so with no water in winter. If you've been watering it after it's stopped putting up new culms for the year, that might be the problem.

Sandi's right, a picture would be very helpful.

Sorry. Here's the pic. It has been green all year until I placed it in the greenhouse.

Looks kind of like my black bamboo today. I bet it'll perk up in spring.

If the weather got coolish before you moved it into the greenhouse, it probably is just doing its 'winter thing'. That's pretty much what the leaves on my big bamboo look like now, after two or three nights that got well down into the 40's.
