In playing, trying to create a site banner, after I figured out that they are member made and contributions, someone mentioned someplace about one that I posted. I was a little embarrassed because I didn't think any other members would see them. They also mentioned that there are *many* posted. Where do I look at those not used but posted?

Btw, in my opinion, they are very difficult. Trying to get a photo 150 pixels in height and still have it look nice is not the easiest thing. But then my camera is set at 1600 x 1200; so probably larger photos would be better to work with.

There is a forum called Site Banners. All the past posted banners are there. I don't think there is anywhere to view unposted banners

Kayleigh, I looked at your member profile page and I don't see any banners listed for you yet. If you've submitted one it might still be in the queue waiting it's turn to run ... with so many banner photos submitted if it might take awhile?

Hmmm, then I wonder how did someone make a comment to me about one I posted? Now I don't even remember where I saw that comment to go back and look. Or maybe I was mistaken about the comment, having read it quickly and moving on (In a flash of embarrassment as to what I thought had happened).

I enjoyed going through the many pages of the Site Banners forum. When I found that forum is when I realized the banners were submitted by members. But I didn't see in that forum any way to view those submitted that were never used.

I guess as you said Lin, photos like that perhaps come up in recently posted photos.

Yes, as jvdubb mentioned in her post above ... members don't see them until after they've been posted to the site. We submit photos for possible banners and they are approved or disapproved (due to size etc.) by admin. Once approved we get a system message and I believe they go into a holding pattern with all others waiting to be posted. Once posted to the site they remain at the top of every page for a period of time (24 hours maybe?) before a new one appears. The Site Banner Forum is where we can view all past banner photos.

I wonder if perhaps someone commented on another photo that you've uploaded to a thread on site? Or, perhaps you submitted a banner photo and received a system message with a comment regarding it? If you click on the little i symbol (in the circle at the top of every page) you can read your past system messages.

Okay, Lin, that helped. Yes, after I went and looked at past system messages, TBGDN (now I forgot) actually posted a system message to me about the banner I had posted. ??

And thanks for the thumbs up on the daylily photo. I seldom got here (to ATP) until this fall (I want to say winter).

Okay ... goofy me. That was still a little bit of that embarrassment set in; and i didn't read closely.

Not on same topic, but i noticed that on one new thread I had posted, that at the top and bottom of the page I am given the easy option of closing the thread. Whereas, on this particular thread, that option is not there. How do I close this?

Ok, I was really getting confused but now I think I'm understanding your original post. Today's banner photo of "Autumn Leaves" is from member TGBN (Leon). In the Site Banner forum, on the thread for todays banner you commented on his picture saying "Beautiful, love the red color." And TGBN gave you a thumbs up for your comment. Sorry, we cross posted...On threads such as this I don't believe there is a way to close it...I think the all powerful, wonderful Dave is the only one that can do it. Smiling

Yes, I'm un-confused now too. I learned that you can give a person a thumbs up, after you have given them a thumbs up. Thank you all, and excuse me while in the learning process.

Kayleigh, I'm 66 years old and I find that I'm still in the learning process of much that I already knew ... if that makes any sense. Rolling on the floor laughing

I thought the only one of our threads that we could actually close was in the Plant ID forum?

Maybe it's just in the Sandbox and the Plant ID forums that gives you that option (closing the thread). It's nice and easy looking though, and I like it.

We don't have an option to close threads here because any comments or additional comments may help others as well.

By the way, when you are checking your system messages and reading about a thumbs up given, you can click on the actual post or image that received that thumbs up so you now know not only who gave it but where. Thumbs up
