Fred, you are right. 7k a week is much too much. When I close my eyes, all the places look the same, right? What I love about Debordieu is the space that is kept pristine. I love seeing the wildlife that hasn't been pushed out. It is however much too rich for me too. my contentment is also in plants and nature not in possessions or locations. I love where I live, ( it isn't in Debordieu) but if I had to buy it today rather than when I did, I wouldn't be able to afford it.
I will check out the links you sent and see if I can find some plants. Thanks
Linda

Carol, I wonder if they would layer like that here? It may not be moist enough.

Here's my blue ginger. It has struggled through the drought and heat this summer. I almost overlooked it, and took the pics with phone so I wouldn't forget.
It's nearly time to put tropicals away for the winter here. A pain to go to all that trouble for just a couple of months, but come mid-February when everything starts waking up, it's worth it I think.

There are blue ones and purple ones. Mine is a deep blue.

Fred, Dichorisandra thyrsiflora is from Brazil, not from Hawaii.

It belongs to the Wandering Jew family, Commelinaceae.

It's a really a beautiful plant, and reasonably tough since it can die back to the roots and then reshoot again.

TropicBreeze, my blue ginger has always collapsed to the ground in a cold spell. This time around I built a little tent around it as I wanted to give it a better chance and not always have to start all over again. It seems to have weathered the last freeze under the tent.

My varrious other gingers are wierd. Some branches froze and others are just fine - on the same plant. This year's freeze was not as bad as last year's but all these things are devastating to my garden. Dead leaves all over the place.

Oh Fred, I have been wondering how the Fl. Gardens were doing after that cold spell. You guys down there have had it rough the last few years with this unusual weather.

It's been one cold lousy night three years in a row. You'd think nature could skip that one day and get on with it.

Fred, I understand that the past couple of winters there you had consistent cold for lengthy times. But this winter you're supposed to have generally above average temps, although with the occasional short cold spike.

Well I count cold as below freezing and as far as I remember that happened twice last year and once this year. A double whammy is definately twice as bad. Smiling
