Yes, I know there are many risks. I grew up on a farm and have always wanted to get back to working with what I call the "real" world. Insurance, banking, sales, - that world is made up of rules that people make. Sometimes you can't take enough showers to rid yourself of the messes that world makes of you.
I'll think differently in February when it's too cold and in August when it's too hot and in March when the wind just will not stop. But for the most part, I think I'll enjoy it. We have much to learn and many projects to finish, but all in all, I think it's an upgrade for us.
Jill.................I call that "La-La Land"............not the farm, the insurance, banking, etc. Most of those people have no clue as to where their food comes from and what it takes to get it there.
Thank you, Kathleen. The best to you and yours in 2015. Merry Christmas.
Oh, you are lucky............you have your own little Stonehenge.
Have 1 batch of cookies baked, and working on the 2nd kind. The SU is hacking up a lung.........AGAIN..........and I told him after he got his beasts fed he is going to drag his sorry arse to Shopko's FastCare.

Merry Christmas everyone! No snow here but they say it is coming today! I have one more plate of cookies to take to neighbors who weren't home yesterday when we made the rounds with the goodie plates, and 3 gifts to wrap. Anna, tell your SU that feeling better for Christmas is a gift to himself and you!
Got him to FastCare and he does not have bronchitis..........yet. LOL Right now it's all in the sinuses. He has 3 different things the dr. prescribed so I hope they help in short order.

The Man is still getting coughing jags, but at least it's not a constant thing like his bronchitis gagging around.
Rain here this morning. As someone on another site posted today "This is the longest November in recorded history". It can just stay this way till about the middle of March as far as I'm concerned!
Dreary and rainy here with the temperature expected to drop sharply this afternoon. Everything is still green around here so it could still be November here too.
At some time yesterday the pigs' watering system broke: there was this new fountain behind the barn! It was not their fault; the rather Rube Goldberg contrivance that I constructed about 15 years ago finally deteriorated. I made a quick fix this AM but it will need some replacement parts when I get to the hardware store. Pipes that run along the rafters take water from one side of the barn where all the normal plumbing is located to the other where the pigs are fed and watered. Fortunately the problem is on ground level outside the barn and simple to repair - or at least so it appears at this point.
Now I'm off to deliver eggs and oranges to a neighbor who recently broke her hip. I have saved some of the hens' better work for her. I have several older hens who lay HUGE eggs; they won't fit into normal egg cartons. I thought she might find them amusing. I'll take a dozen average sized eggs as well in case she needs them for recipes.
