I took today off to "play" in the gardens. I mulched my newest peony and lily garden. 50 bags of mulch later this is what it looks like. I'll spare showing you what I looked like afterwards... Smiling LOL Needless to say I'm really tired tonight... Blinking

Chris, I'm contemplating going back for 50 more this weekend... Whistling Evidently I was able to walk too well after the first 50 bags, so we'll try it again! Rolling on the floor laughing

Seriously, it's supposed to be really nice this weekend and I need to get things weeded and mulched. Smiling

That is a wonderful, huge garden! We got about 4" of snow last night. Thumbs down It was in the 80s last week and now this. I have some peonies up about 10" already, tulips, daffodils, crocus all blooming. Bummer. But back in the 60s for the weekend. So hope I can get out there and work too!

Well, at least you got snow and not just nasty freezing temps. And the other good thing about snow this time of the year is that it does not last. Smiling Yay!! So, get out there and get us pictures of your peonies covered in the snow and then pictures of them when it's all gone...

I know I'm going to tear up more of the East pasture this year and put in more peonies, I just haven't broken it to my husband as of yet. Whistling

You're right, the snow doesn't last long. Unfortunately I'm at work and not able to get any pictures though.....

That's so nice that you have room - and energy - to put in more gardens! I think about digging up more lawn sometimes but then think, do I really want more to weed? Right now, I'm thinking not? Rolling my eyes. But then I look through the plant catalogs and there sure are a lot of things I'd like!

I never use to use mulch anywhere but in my hosta beds, but I am now using it in everything. I just make sure that I leave a circle around my peonies and I plant my iris on a mound and then mulch up to the mound. As far as digging out a bed, I don't dig out anything. I just spray the area that I want a new bed in with Round-up and kill off the grass and then I skim the sod off the areas I want to plant in and mulch the heck out of things. ;) If I can't wait for the round-up to kill things off, then I skip it and just mow the area really close and then skim the sod off where I want to plant and then lay down newspaper sections and or cardboard and mulch away.. Smiling Both ways work just fine. Thus, no digging! Yay!!

I love mulch and buy it by the trailer load. Sure cuts down on weeding and watering!

I'll have to try the Round-Up/newspaper method. Sounds like something I can handle. Thumbs up

Just found this post since I am fairly new to all this., it has been taking some time to go back and read and try to catch up on what I have been missing. great site.

Do you have pictures of this project completed and planted? I love peonies and do not see too many posts from gardeners about peonies...lots of iris. Do any of you peony people trade? I am willing to do so. Please email me back if anyone is interested in trading. thank you doglover (Marsha)

I'll try to get more pictures of my peonies this year. I have been seriously restoring my old farm house for the past three or four years and it's taken a toll on my garden time. So... This year, we're back to gardening with a vengence. Smiling LOL

Thank you goldfinch. I will be trying to join in on this thread more often.

Ticker, I will be watching for your pictures. Don't you just hate it when others things take you away from your gardens? I have been going back thru some old pictures to find some others to post. Just need more time. keep planting those peonies, one can never have enough. Love them. Marsha
