Beautiful!!! I have a sister-in-law who is crazy about the color purple. I'll bet she would give anything to paint her house like yours...but she's in a suburban neighborhood...they have rules! What a lovely treat on such a dreary day!

Thanks y'all! I'm fortunate to have no neighbors in sight, well, at least not when the trees are leafed out. I gotta let my freak flag fly, LOL! And I must admit, being kind of an absent minded professor in the garden, it's nice that when I get distracted and leave piles of weeds and garden trimmings laying around, nobody can see them. I've been doing a lot of manicuring and editing this fall, so I'm looking forward to much improved "after" pics in 2015.

Marilyn, it came about because of the garden around the entrance, which is in memory of my friend Jan who lived (and died) in this house. Purples, blues, and mauve were her colors, and she loved fragrant flowers, so those qualities have guided the plantings. I had already decided I wanted to paint the house a quirky color, but the garden told me what color to go with.

I have traveled a bit to other countries where people are not afraid to paint their houses in their favorite colors. I loved them. The house I live in now is made of cypress and so does not get painted but when I did live in a painted house it was never white. My house may not be painted but my sheds and garden swings and benches are in shades of blue. Your house rocks, Neal!

Lovely Neal. I sort of keep away from tulips because of the deer. We are also quite shaded & where there is sun, there are iris.

I the dark people tulip 'Queen of Night'? When we lived in Ct. we grew that one with yellows which flowered at the same time.

Lucy, you're right, that dark tulip is Queen of the Night- I love those! Thankfully, the deer don't often come into the yard, but occasionally the cattle break free and end up here. The damage from them isn't so much from what they eat as where they stand and walk (if the soil is wet).
