This one was marked wrong from a grower and I kept it around because it is a nice early bloomer with a good bud count. Ticker thought at one time it could be 'Roselette'.

Here is 'Athena', the colors on this peony are pretty special. I first saw the bloom in a picture of DG member Pixie's garden. It's quite the peony.

A dear friend helped me to replace a killed fern peony. This is the first bloom for it, what a treasured sight it is!

Another tree peony :
'Yachiyo Tsubaki' (Eternal Camellias)

Tree peonies may just be my favorite of all the peony types. Perhaps it is because the blooms are so large and they look so stately in bloom. The way the petals are organized are so delicate and beautiful. They announce spring in such a nice way.

Well, it's not a peony, so I am cheating, but scattered in some of my peony beds are camassia. A bulb that I did was not familiar at all with, until I began shopping at Buggy Crazy. Camassia here is Lisa's Dwarf Blue

Camassia are nice companions for my favorite plants. Buggy Crazy opened my eyes to many different and unique varieties of bulbs, corms and plants. Here is a pink camass purchased a few years ago from Buggy Crazy. Very reliable coming up and blooming here in zone 5, but I do have to watch out that the deer don't devour it

You've got lots blooming already and all real beauties! Athena is gorgeous. Really like the camassia too. Do you know if they're hardy in zone 4? And how tall do they get?

The camass are hardy to zone 3, so you'd be fine Chris. They get about 1 1/2 to 2 feet tall maybe. As I say, the deer love them, so I have to spray a variety of stink sprays. Apparently they think my yard is an all you can eat buffet Sad What really gets me is when they chomp something and then decide it wasn't as great as they expected and leave the stalk with flower near open for me to see. Ugh!

Thank you for your kind words all and do post you peonies here! I can hardly wait to see them.

Thanks for the info. I'm surprised we don't get many deer. We live right across the highway from a nature preserve/park. There were actually more deer before they created the preserve, but I don't miss them! I used to feed birds but quit because I found that attracted deer too.

Here's the neighbor. I really enjoy these two, they bloom together and the bees are crazy for them. These are the two that are likely cross pollinated (this post and the last post) and produce good seed that I have had success in starting. These are the parents to the seedlings I am hopefully giving away to some with their peony co-op cubit order, if they mentioned that they wanted one.

One of the branches of that last one broke off due to the heavy, heavy snow in December. We had a lot of tree damage here. Even losing a significant branch I still had 15 blooms ;)

Next time a branch breaks off try sticking it into the ground and pressing the hole closed. I have had them root.
