I am pretty sure my co-op plants were root and I planted them in spring.
It seems reasonable they would grow all season ( I doubt bloom that year ) and die back late summer ,then put up a crown in early fall and bloom the following year.

I bought plants from Garden Crossings one year ( Royal Wedding ) and they came budded and bloomed later that season.
I plan to buy potted Plum Pudding at our local nursery, that will be my pink poppy for this year.

I Have two clumps of Harlem. I got the right plant on the second attempt from Dutchgardens. Both plants didn't bloom in 2014. Notice the variation at different stages of the bloom cycle. Hoping for a bumper crop this season. Part of the NY series.

I love the NY series. The pinks are great. I hope to find Manhattan and Harlem this spring. I might have to go to Garden Crossings and pay the big bucks to assure blooms.
Dutch Gardens has a bad rating so I dont think they will get my order.

Big bucks is right! I was ok with the price of the plant, but shipping costs are high- no matter what combo of plants, I was about to order 1 poppy and 2 alstroemeria, but a $49 order was going to be $87 with shipping! Just the 1 poppy with shipping is over $30, so I guess I'll keep looking.

I'm always frugal, but I don't think I'm being totally cheap here- that is excessive isn't it? I thought to myself, "that's more than I'd pay for a Rose or Peony!" ....well, ok I would pay that for a peony, but that's a different story, LOL.

I dont bother to buy from Garden Crossings anymore because of the cost. They're plants are wonderful but sometimes I just have to draw the line. Bluestone manages to keep their prices reasonable, too bad they dont have the poppy I want.

The price is good already, and they're on sale now, so not a big loss if the plants aren't great.

I'm so glad I read this thread! Thanks so much for mentioning this (new to me, too) vendor! I'd been searching for more of a particular plant, reasonably priced, and they can fulfill that wish! Plus, once I placed the order I was very surprised to find that they offer free shipping! Blinking I wonder how they can do that?

May have to go back and see what else I can find. Big Grin

Chelle, it sure seems worth taking a chance. I'll place an order even though I'm a little leery, no big loss if it doesn't work out. I was just thinking I need to check out their seed offerings.

I agree

Yep, at three dollars and change per plant, plus free shipping, just about the only way to lose out would be if they were DOA, and I see nothing in the reviews to lead me to believe that would happen.

gemini-sage and chelle :
Keep us posted as to the outcome for your orders.
I am tempted but will wait. Vermont wildflower has mixed reviews on DG Garden Watchdog.

P S I hate to be a wet blanket but the image VW is using is an annual poppy. Pattys Plum has black pollen parts and ruffled petals. VW image is probably the annual version.

Check the Zahir poppy on this site

If you dont care then just tune me out. LOL

I noticed that with the pics too. The third one looks like an Oriental, but the first 2 were definitely annuals. I'm also concerned that if it is an Oriental Poppy, it could easily be the wrong color. A big orange-red poppy in my pink garden would drive me nuts, LOL.

I think we talked about this before the holidays.
My position is not to take the chance for your reasons.
However since they are so reasonably priced what do you have to loose.
Its probably a mistake with the website designer.
When I was cruising for Pattys Plum I read a small bit ( maybe a blog ) about the plant not being as long lived and the new Plum Pudding was developed to counter the problems with PP. They are similar in look. I am buying potted plants of Plum Pudding .
Costs for everything are going up so fast I am not as cavalier with my bucks as I used to be.

I'm also planning to peruse some of the big garden centers in Lexington this spring, so I might get lucky.

If I get some from VWF, I'll put them in a holding bed to see them bloom before placing in the pink garden.

Great idea. I suspect the bare roots are small. I would pot them just to play it safe too.
It just kills me to go back in my files and see the fantastic clump I had.

Jo Ann that was a big clump for sure. Did it all died at once or slowly declined ?
Neal, I would do the opposite. I would plant it in the "pink" bed now and move it if it's not the right plant. They don't like to be moved anyway. Either way you have nothing to loose.

Mike, that was one big clump. It was about 4 years old and it didnt come back last spring. I just chalked it up to the terrible long deep freeze we had in '14
