Our posts crossed, David. Love the new orchid. You sure are having fun with this. May I propose a name for that one:

Aluminum canmusica 'Blues' might fit there. The last one was more of a 'Jazz' I thought.

You were in the Florida statistics to Elaine, and Congratulations. 4 Florida gals. I just double checked. I tip my hat to you.

Love those names you come up with. That is great! Smiling Its based loosely on a Ladies Slipper with very pointed toes;....maybe a ballerina with a carbuncle, with a hint of Gloriosa Lily maybe. (The colors haven't evolved yet) If we were to go more white then yellow, and keep the blues and add the reds it could be all American original and ready for the fourth or July!

I feel silly now..................................... *Blush* Like a 5 year old doing show and tell. Oh well. I have many 5's in my years! Many....many....ma......................you get the picture. Smiling

The Sanseveria are coming into bloom everywhere. The giant powderpuff is blooming nicely now and this firespike flower has an interesting form.

My gardens are full of upside down cardboard boxes covering some small tender plants. It was 36 here this AM but the wind is just brutal. Now it is up to a whopping 43. We are to have 2 more cold nites so the boxes & frost cloth are all staying in place. At least I'm getting some quilting done!!!!!

Nice pictures there, David. Your ground orchid is an Epidendrum, and what a pretty color. The most common one is Epi radicans but I think that one has bright orange flowers.

I'm with you on leaving the frost cloth in place, Jean. It's honking outside here too, and while it's nice in the sun IF you can get out of the wind, it's still very darned cold. I need to go over to the school garden and repair the sprinkling system Brrr!!

We have an abandoned house across the street from us with a lovely red powderpuff bush that is the only nice thing left in that yard. It's ready to burst into bloom. This is usually a signal that the bank will send in the once-a-year landscape cleanup crew, and they will prune it until there are no blooming branches left . . . Rolling my eyes. We hope to one day be able to buy that property and rehab the house (and garden Green Grin! ) but that's not happening any time soon!

I agree with Elaine, that beautiful Epidendrum looks like Crucifix Orchid (Epidendrum radicans)

Plus a lot of them 'migrate' along with the birds! You should see the array of different license plates driving around our city this time of year! When my nieces came to visit last February, they kept a log of how many different plates they saw, and I think they got all 12 from Canada and most of the States including Alaska and Hawaii, plus Puerto Rico.

We do have a little bit of weak sunshine getting through, but lots of clouds around today, too. Much warmer outside, though. Some of the orchid 'migrants' are getting put back out this morning.

Yes, but Ken I'll undoubtedly be schlepping them in again a couple more times as the cold fronts descend again. We'd love to think so, but 'winter' is not over for us until just about March. We've even had a dandy cold front show up in April one year. That one really zapped a lot of plants that were in full springtime growth.

Now, I'm puzzling what to do about my impending 'grandma' trip to Salt Lake City . . . Leave orchids in the house or out? Leave the frost cloth tent deployed or not? I guess I'll have to play it by ear and decide based on the weather forecast when I get the "go" signal that our DIL is in labor.
