I think I have to get better pictures. These are too fuzzy.

Fred, both Jim and I have a few Cyms. His bloom wonderfully. I've had trouble getting them to re-bloom, even the heat tolerant varieties like the Everglades series, but I think they haven't had enough sun in the winter and early spring so I've moved them recently. I have one in spike now that I posted the other day on the "Anticipation" thread.

I also grow Ludisia discolor, and 5 different colors of Spathoglottis, that are just amazing Energizer bloomers. The leaves look pretty ratty after cold weather, but they keep on blooming as long as I protect them a bit. Mine are all in pots, since I have oak tree roots everywhere under my garden beds. They're available at the big box stores periodically.

BTW my orchids in bloom - a few random shots - I think the pictures don't show the same resolution as I have them. That is why they are so fuzzy.

Not fuzzy here at all, Fred!!! That is one drool-worthy display!! Lovey dubby

I gave up large Cymbidiums years ago, I just can't accommodate them, once they have to go inside in late Fall.

Nice Spathoglottis, Elaine!

Elaine, I have the same problem with Spaths as Cymbs. They never come with names. A few here and there but in general they seem to be taken as decorative only. I have some in the ground but they seem to get lost on my property
Thumb of 2015-01-12/Fred/c3d5ad and I'm planting them in pots where I can monitor them a little better. In the background you can see cymbs flowering Thumb of 2015-01-12/Fred/cb2381

No Jackie Brights in my collection and no relatives in the USA except for my offspring and the offspring of my sister.

I had the tables custom made by the greenhouse people. They came in bits and pieces and had to be assembled here. They are stationary and do not fold. Very heavy too but I wanted something solid where the mess doesn't sag.

Jade orchids here in Naples won an award and named Blc. Momilani Rainbow 'Scott Allen' HCC/AOS after their grandson Scott. This is a division of that plant. Like my other Momilanis Rainbows it is a prolific bloomer and goes on and on.

Yes, my Spathoglottis started to peter out when I had a few clumps in the ground. I think they just can't compete well with the oak roots, like most of my flowering plants. If you give them a little TLC, extra water and fert, the oak tree roots invade.

So, they are in pots and get moved around to maximize the light/shade ratio as the shadows move. Right now they're enjoying full sun for about 4 hours on the stand where I'm growing my veggies in Earth Boxes. I have a big frost cloth 'tent' on a roller that I can deploy on the cold nights to cover about 30 of the 'favorites' plus keep the tomatoes and peppers from pouting.

Ursula your Schomburgkia superbiens is a winner. I'm going to look for that this weekend at the Miami show. I think it's a Laelia now.

Rlc. Island Girl - I have a bunch of them as I bought 5 seedlings of the original cross from Fender's Flora years ago. Now I have divisions too but there are many varieties among these siblings. One can really tell that not all children come out the same. Smiling One thing is for sure though, they all love the new controlled GH environment and are busting out all over. This morning I counted 18 flowers about to pop here.

and the other Island Girls are nothing to sneeze at either.

All are just beautiful, Fred. You are correct. That Schom. superbiens is now L.

Those tables look to be stainless steel, correct?

Fred, I have several Cymbidiums, all growing in pots around a big oak tree. In the heat of the summer, I drag them closer to the tree to increase the shade. In the winter, I drag them back into the sun. They are spiking now. I have purchased them at show/sales and I know I have bought a few from Chapman's Orchids in Apopka. I won't buy them without tags. The ones they sell at the supermarket around mother's day and the NOID ones at the big box stores are hard for me to re-bloom for some reason. By the way, thanks for sharing your very nice display of bloomers. You are creating quite the tropical paradise there in Naples.

More gorgeous stuff, Fred!!

Yes, according to KEW the accepted name is Laelia superbiens, Schomburgkia superbiens is one of the official synonyms.
Guess what, I bought it as Schomburgkia and in my mind it will stay Scomburgkia! Shrug! Now if I were to take that plant to a Show where it will be judged, I will happily call it by its accepted name. Or, if this plant would be used in hybridization, yes, the latest accepted name will be used.
In the meanwhile, I am a hobbyist, not a professional grower..... Smiling

The C. maxima v. semi alba and Slc. Fire Magic 'Nora' are now pretty much opened up. 'Nora' has one more bud to go.
