It's really got a death grip on that pot, Ursula. It would lose a lot of nice roots if I tried to dislodge it. I think smashing the bottom off the pot is my best option, since I doubt there's a lot of roots in the bottom part of the pot anyway. It's really too heavy to hang it as it is. It will lose a few pounds if I can take the bottom off the pot.
But I'll wait at least one more bloom cycle to do the deed. It's a little late, but just starting to put out the first of 3 big fat spikes
Just as an aside, this is a classic case of a beginner mess up that came out all right . . . I bought this orchid over 3 years ago, a small plant in a 5in. plastic pot, and with one nice flower on it. I re-potted it in my newbie zeal in that great big pot, just because I really liked the pot. The plant grew and grew for 2 years before it put up another flower. Way overpotted, obviously. But now - I have this great specimen-sized plant that blooms like crazy at least twice a year, three times last year! Sometimes you blunder into success through the back door, right?
