Woohoo!! Were are the one to two feet snow and howling winds? Not here!!
We got a total of ca 4 inches and it is snowing right now very lightly.
Kathy, how is your area?
We have some 12 inch drifts, lots of blowing snow. 4-5 inches on average so far. Cars don't have much-it blew off. Looks like Eastern MA is getting more. It's still coming down. The good news is the wind seems to be blowing off the electric lines so no outages. And no heavy snow build up on limbs of trees.
Kathy, that sounds great!! Looks like we dodged a bullet!! Perhaps a Senior Doomsday Weather Predictor cobbled this forecast together.
I am now cleaning up the driveway and car, Klaus did already part of it which always includes our 95 year old neighbor's sidewalks etc.
The Weather Channel is notorious for hyping storms and they are the ones who started to name them all. Why does every snow-storm need a name? Because it creates more interest (sells air-time) and puts them in the same category as hurricanes.

Sun just popped out here. Snow flurries and drifts. Termed a moderate snowstorm here. Eastern MA is getting it big time. 18-20" and blowing hard. Not a hype for them! We were lucky.
Some snow this morning on the greenhouse ceiling -
this is Phrag Sorcerer's Apprentice ( always a smaller plant for me than the Sorcerer's Fire), it has blooming on the top shelf for months now.
the crazy Potinara / Rlc Dick Smith opened another spike
Laelia mixta keeps on popping buds
This small Onc cheirophorum opened a few blooms
This C. labiata x surprised me with another, later spike.
And - I moved the Dendrochilum glumaceum towards the front of the greenhouse, the strong scent of Anise just hits you when you walk into the warm greenhouse, I love it. It will take few days before all spikes are open.
By now the sun is out and the greenhouse ceiling is almost clear.

So glad the snowstorm didn't hit you too hard, Ursula. Lovely flowers on Den. glumaceum, and the scent of anise does sound lovely, that's a really pretty graceful plant!

You know, this Dendrochilums is always mentioned as Hay - scented! Far from reality!!
The Anise hits your nose first and then comes a bit of Vanilla, it is a really nice scent.

A few repeats here, as my Lc. Renate has her spike fully open now. Second spike just opening, too. Interesting that her colors are pretty similar to Ursula's vivid Rlc. Dick Smith above, but she gives a softer appearance with the peach tepals.
Couple more posed for the camera . .. Den. Andree Millar nearly done but with another spike coming, and NoID Den from Trader Joe's putting on a really nice show. This shot actually got the color pretty close to right, low sun did it, I think.

As I was preparing orchids for today's show, I found a couple of tiny ones that I had overlooked. First up is Den. aberrans x Den. Hisako Haraguchi.
The other is Bulb. Sunshine Queen 'Yellow' (Bulb. mastersianum x Bulb. corolliferum)
While I'm at it, I may as well give you a last look at Myc. Mem. Louise Fuchs 'Weesie' AQ/AOS. I say last look because I broke the spike off transporting her home. It was easy to use the pool as a background since the spike was in my hand, not attached to the plant.
Remember the big white NOID Dendrobium that I posted a few days ago? The one where I toppled 7 orchids trying to hang it back up? Well, Ursula suggested the name Den. White Fairy and after looking it up, I decided that was close enough. So I took her today with a White Fairy name tag and she won the Members' Choice award. I think if 'White Fairy' is good enough for the judges, good enough for Ursula, and good enough for the majority of club members, she is indeed 'White Fairy'.
I know this award is not as fancy as all of Kathy's blue AOS ribbons but it gave me a smile on an otherwise mundane Tuesday in January.
Ursula, nice pictures with the snowy background. My favorite has to be the Dendrochilum glumaceum. What a beautiful plant!

I would think Renate is pretty, in contrast Dick Smith is a bit over the top! I am partial to the pretty Dendrobium too!
Ken, the Dendrochilum is actually living in an Epiweb basket and liking it just fine. I see really good yearly growth. I will post the plant again when the spikes are more developed.
Here is the Epiweb, years ago this stuff was darker colored. http://www.firstrays.com/epiwe...
I forgot to mention that the name has changed to Ecoweb, if anyone wishes to buy from Ray.
We overlapped, Jim!
thanks.
Congrats on the White Fairy! I had looked through the pictures in my old book Flora's Orchids and I thought it was really close. Then image-googling it, I thought it was a fit.
I adore the cute Bulbo, and sorry you broke the spike on 'Weesie', but your pictures really show the gorgeous blooms!.

Well done on your ribbon, Jim. I love the little bulbo flower, it's so neat and tidy! Btw, the stem of beautiful flowers on 'Weesie' will probably last a long time if you put it in a vase in the house.
That name always reminds me of when we were kids and our cousins would come to our summer camp at a lake to visit. My oldest cousin's name was Louise and her baby sister dubbed her "Wee see". Those were the days.

Not usually a fan of Bulbos, but I too, like Jim's little one. Something about the color and shape is just very interesting to look at. And Ursula, I really like your 'Dick Smith'. As I was looking at it I thought to myself, "I really like the gaudy ones, don't I?" I mean, if it looks like a painter threw his entire palette at a plain, white orchid, then I will probably love it. Ah, I guess it's good they have lots of variations in orchids. At least the vendors can come close to pleasing everyone!
Glad everyone came through the storm okay! We had mid-40's this morning even around 8:00 am and I felt weird ordering my Iced Vanilla Latte at Starbucks. #FloridaPeopleProblems
Melanie, I surely don't have a problem with something in your face gaudy either, heh, I just had to pick the Dick Smith. The blooms on mine are not as large yet as the ones on that big plant last year at the vendor's table, the one which made me buy it. For some reason these silly blooms make me smile.
What can I say, I pretty much enjoy them all.
We are rushing around trying to get all of the labels prepared for the St. Louis show this weekend. My Den Princess x Gold Star 'Orange Royal' won Orchid of the Month (judge: Eric Hunt). Pretty exciting.
