i have that bayer soak in the garage unopened - i think it would be a good idea to do that to a few trees and shrubs here - there are a couple vib's that get attacked and then bouce back - and with all the conifers polly talked me into ordering:) i should spray them just in case - and i have some valued alberta's like rainbows end and sanders blue that i would hate to lose.

(polly only led me to the water, i did not have to drink)

eclayne said:Many of the Mugo, Alberta Spruce and Viburnum have taken a beating. I've sprayed as much as I could with a systemic but I think they're present in just too many places. Anyone have any ideas?

I couldn't help but notice your post regarding the Spruce and Viburnum. We have a Christmas Tree Farm and just now the bag worms are all over everything. I have not noticed the Mites, but I will certainly check that out. We are spraying today with sevin (sp) I am sure you know what I mean, that seems to take care of the bag worms. The arborvitae is a mess. I have a row of that beside my parking area and this is the first year it has been as full as it is. These are very tall trees, about 8 years old or more. I am so worried I might loose them.

As for critters, we have an invasion of groundhogs and their babies. They are coming from the farm next door that has been vacant for two years. They found our side of the fence much more tasty. They are eating the veggies before the rabbits and squirrels can get to them. They are digging holes under our new fence and beginning to get my dander up. If I catch them in my GH It will not be a haveahart trap it will be sudden death for sure. I do not mind them sharing the scraps for the birds, i.e. recycled things from the parrot cages, but my patience is fading with the garden.

I'll have to look up bagworms. My problems now look extremely manageable when compared to the scale of control you have to deal with. I never thought of squirrels eating plants. As we have many, I may be falsely accusing the cottontails and chucks. I'm constantly pulling up baby walnut trees that the squirrels have seen fit to plant.

Barb have you tried adjusting the "screen resolution" of your computer. This is what I did to increase font size on my mothers. It will change the size of everything.

I wonder if they just like certain trees? I remember as a kid, my grandpa and the gardner used to take a gasoline torch and burn them out of the trees.

The spraying here for the mosquitoes is about as good as the caterpillars spraying. Zilch in my Area. Rolling my eyes.

My SIL put 4 x 4s along the bottom of the fence where one of the neighbors dog keeps pushing under and between the groundhogs and this dog (who we can not find out who it belongs to,) has our new $$$$$ fence beginning to look years old. Irresponsible pet owners make me sick.
This dog goes under our fence every morning and runs to the next open area. He must weigh 90 lbs he is a big golden retriever. Grumbling

I might try the havahart for rabbits, not only are they eating the garden, the dog tramples the garden chasing them, too bad she didn't get this nest.

The wind gave us a break and we sprayed the arborviteas last night and I am just praying they all survive.

To top that off the mealy bug invaded my one big gardenia and I had to wash that off and spray it severely and I thought maybe I would kill it but it is surviving and the bugs seem to have gone. I am sure I did not get them all, but I sure tried.

Now, as for the grandhogs, I am about to scream...........they are just taking over. The cats don't bother them because they are so big They are eating very well. What is it about God's little creatures all being born with such appetites. Grumbling

Thank you Wha for calling that to my attention. I have some arthritic fingers that play tricks on my spelling at times but that was certainly not a type o....maybe I was thinking it and just wrote it. Sticking tongue out As we speak the babies are having lunch, they are eating the bird seed I threw out from the inside birds cages. They are growing............. Thumbs down Thumbs down

I see you do not have a name or a place on your post. Are you lost? Poor baby. Have a nice day and stay cool.
