Coconut Repurpose, Orchid Hanging Basket

By RobertB
January 11, 2015

This time of year here in Florida the last round of coconuts is starting to fall to the ground. Neighborhood kids keep them picked up for the most part, but there are always a few that end up lying around. Here is a little repurpose project that you might find to be fun.

Fabulous idea Robert! I bet the orchids adore those shells.

Oh, now that is a novel idea. All I need is access to a coconut. They are hard to find in below zero Wisconsin. LOL Green Grin!

I love orchids, but I have just a couple of them. I have seen people use coconut for growing little plants, but many others use the coconut fibre and also charcoal pieces in wire pots to grow their orchids.

I imagine border patrol would frown on my stashing one in my checked bag when we come back from Mexico. LOL

Coconuts are removed and sold in the market. Common scene here - husk is sold as fuel which many people buy.

Art from the full fruit. I took this picture in a shop during my tour to the lovely Andaman Islands. Chimp and Lord Ganesh carved out.
