This afternoon it's in the upper 60s, so I opened the hoophouse in our side yard. Except for the few plants that were too close to the plastic, I think they all did well. We've had a few freezes and I've not opened it up to water anything except a brugmansia on the end that was blooming. (And yes, there's a pathway along the back for me to check on everything).

@bubbles looks great! I'm jealous of your plants up here in Georgetown -- the only ones doing really, really well are the ones in the small popup greenhouse on the patio. Hopefully next year I'll improve and have such a great pic as yours !

The less I do, the better they survive. Does that make sense? I used to get up a few times a night when it was supposed to freeze. Now, I just get up to make sure the heaters haven't tripped the circuit breakers.

Carol, I thought of you today. The Great Outdoors newsletter came and they have select pots on sale for 50% off, with another 25% off the sale price until the end of the month! We will definitely hit TGO nursery when we do our nursery crawl.

Cheryl, I have brugs blooming at both ends of the hoop!

Here's a pic of the other hoop off the game room door. Notice that tiny stool at the back? That's where DH has to go to smoke when it's cold outside... Thumbs down The other patio has a tv in the cabinet, so when he smokes he can watch football, or whatever, when the weather is warmer...just not in the house...

@Ecscuba DH woke up at 2 AM, checked the weather on his phone because I hadn't closed the hoop last night. Saw it was supposed to be 36, so he went downstairs to close it. 'Said he stuck his head out, didn't seem that cold, so went back to bed. Plants are fine today, DH is groggy. I slept through it!

Such a gorgeous day. Have to get outside.

Awesome! I have tropical hibiscus blooming in my greenhouse. Always a winter treat!

Hibiscus here are pouting. I don't cut them back until spring. Blooms are small and few. If I wait until spring, the cuttings are easier to root.

I normally cut the buds off in Winter since it takes a lot of energy to flower, but I'll keep a few on from time to time for the smiles.

LOVE hibiscus! I don't have the sun for them. But hate that they are fussy about our winter weather. Then look raggety even if they make it? Though I hear there are cold tolerate ones??

The Tropicals, Hibiscus rosa-sinensis are pretty much zone 10 plants .. the Hibiscus mocheutos are hardy all the way down to zone 5.
