Here is a very good site to get the basic idea and projects for your clay.
I have used it quite a few times.
http://polymerclaycentral.com/
Let's make a Dragonfly Stake. Need a small amount of clay. I use Sculpyiii or Premo. I love to use contrasting colors ,so for this little fellow I used a light orange and a dark orange with green higlights. The stick is a popsickle stic. So this is sort of a small stake. I cover the stick in a very thin sheet of clay which I have concitioned to make more flexible
Thumb of 2011-07-15/Ridesredmule/89a179
I put a sculpy polymer glue onto stick to make clay stick, on both sides.
Thumb of 2011-07-15/Ridesredmule/74dc34
You want to make sure the stick is completely covered in the clay, No airholes. We don't water to fo in and weaken the stick. There is a lot of work but You can do it. Make sure the side seams are smooth.
Thumb of 2011-07-15/Ridesredmule/3616ac
Then we create the little Dragonfly body.
Thumb of 2011-07-15/Ridesredmule/0c8ebb
come in three parts , the head , the body and the tail. You form all these by rolling and shaping til you are happy with shape.

Thumb of 2011-07-15/Ridesredmule/6369b0

Thumb of 2011-07-15/Ridesredmule/f389fb
Now we want to give this little faciful fella arms with fingers.
Roll two little clay pieces same size for arms. Take a craft knife and make little fingers, then you have to form the little toes so they will look very much like these
Thumb of 2011-07-15/Ridesredmule/ecaa06
Press these little arms on underside of dragon body.
Wings are next

Thumb of 2011-07-15/Ridesredmule/9d0a30

Thumb of 2011-07-15/Ridesredmule/ca3f8d I've run the clay thru the pasta machine and made it right thickness for wings. We don't want them to break.

Thumb of 2011-07-15/Ridesredmule/a2835f
Then we got to decide which shape we want.
Thumb of 2011-07-15/Ridesredmule/fa2c1d

Thumb of 2011-07-15/Ridesredmule/0f01d2
I cut out four little ovals Made a contrasting band for the wings. Then fastened the wings to the DF.
Now we put glue onto the DF back and stick on wings.
Thumb of 2011-07-15/Ridesredmule/ec86c5
Put glue on the stick and press on DF and arrange his Tail to look the way you want.
I forgot to sign and date these but I usually do that before I put them in the oven.
Thumb of 2011-07-15/Ridesredmule/2ae2a6
Now we bake him.
I put in two so I set oven to 275 degrees for 30 min.
Next step is bake and spray him with a clear acrylic spray.

A very good Reference site: http://www.polymerclaycentral....
