Larry, I bet you get some very harsh weather in your area. Do you buy mostly dormants? Just curious.

Many thanks for the welcome and comments, Mike and Teresa. I tip my hat to you.

Glad you asked, Teresa. Our gardens are technically in zone 5a, but we're close to the 4b border. Interestingly, for most of the past five winters or so, we've had zone 6 winters. So far this winter our lowest temperature has been -15 degrees.

I grow daylilies in all three groups: dormant, semi evergreen, and evergreen. The evergreens may surprise you. I've just finished some extended research on this category and will have the details posted on my website when it goes live, hopefully in a few weeks. Would you believe I've identified over 2,200 evergreen daylilies that are listed as hardy in zone 5? I'm trialing a bunch now and will do more in succeeding years. How many more depends on what's out there that I can use in my hybridizing program.

Here are the ones that have survived a winter or two:
Answering Angels
Calico Jack
Collard Dream
Destined To See
Dragon King
Emmaus (Both Parents Are Dormant)
Feathered Prism
Get Jiggy (Sometimes Listed As Dormant)
Indian Sky
Jane Trimmer
Jumble Edge
Monkey Face
Pagan Ritual
Persian Market
Sir Francis Drake
Star Of India
Storm Of The Century
Way Over Yonder
Wild Horses

I will be trialing these in 2015:
Cosmic Kaleidoscope
Better By Design
Buddy’s Betsy
Buddy’s Shaun
Garnet Prism
No No Nanette
Raspberry Prism
Starburst Fantasy
Trim Work

Larry, I have some that are on your first list. I haven't lost any during the winters. We can get below zero without snow cover.

Destined to See is very hardy for me. So far Get Jiggy has been very hardy and Buddy's Betsy has already gone through one winter here without a problem.

Thanks for the report, James. Mark Carpenter told me that he had gotten numerous reports from northern growers that this cultivar (actually Jack's) grows well in northern gardens. Makes me want to try some of the others in this series.

I've finally finished compiling a list of evergreen daylilies hardy in zone 5. It appears in a blog on the website I just launched. If you'd like to check it out, you can do so here: https://cottageinthemeadow.pla...

Larry, I already have bookmarked your blog and will read it when I have some extra time. I live in Minnesota but this will give me a good idea if a plant I am interested in might just grow here even though we are a zone colder. Really a great resource for northern daylily folks! Thank You!

So far, I have found a few that I lost in my 5b/6a garden. They were very tender.

Elsie Spalding
Cleopatra
Classic Edge
Fol De Rol
Frog's Eye

Winter lost all of the above several years ago.

I can't recall Larry if it was or not, sorry. I just know that I hadn't mulched these plants very well. I will check through the list later on today and see if there are any others on the list that I lost. I think I got as far as H's.

The only two I have outright lost to winter (not to miserable freeze thaws and a cold spring) were BOB CHARMAN and VIVID BUTTERFLY.

I had sent several older cultivars with my daughter. They are getting tested, she lives near Boston. Close to 3 ft of snow, temps 12 this morning. Gust of winds over 60 mph.

"Have no patience for bare ground"
Larry, I went thru the whole list. I have 59 of the ones listed. As far as Frog's Eye in my garden, I got it in the fall of twenty thirteen. It sent up a scape last year that the rabbits took care of so I will be able to report on that considering that Hemlady lost hers. It was interesting to see Tusk on the list which gives me hope after hearing that Jan in Wisconsin lost hers. I got my Tusk last season so we will see how it come out of its first winter here. Planted next to Look Here Mary, I can wait to see the contrast of the two big and varying blooms. The only discrepancy I saw in your list is with numbers 658, 661 that are listed twice, however number 709 is the registered name of 658.
Love the "Birdbath Plant Fountain", the cobblestone walk edging, Spooky Dianthus and that humongous Ravenna. Never saw that one before. I am going to try and look thru the rest of the pages soon. There are some great ideas to incorporate in my garden. Thanks for your time consuming research and pictures.
